Steam-piston rocket? (aka, MechJeb Mishaps)

Well, heh. :) I forgot that I left "limit to terminal velocity" checked on, in the MechJeb, and did a manual test-launch of a concept for an Eve Lander... and uhm... The rocket decided to act like a piston, with the throttle sliding up and down. And yet, it did not break, and it recovered.

Anyone else have some amusing MechJeb mishaps to share?

Having the wrong control part of a ship selected and watching MechJeb try and launch sideways. :/ But yeah, I've had the piston thing too.

Edit: Also, I will say that it is a bit annoying that Squad have brought the nice new very strong larger parts but the medium sized adapters and decouplers all get squished like rubber now. I hope they get improved because I think decouplers would explode rather than get squished.

I just did a routine landing attempt with mechjeb on the Men. I docked the lander with a fuel station to top off, picked my landing site and promptly left the parking orbit headed for the Sun. I forgot to change the control point from the docking port on the bottom of the lander.

On Eve's surface MechJeb's "Prevent overheats" means "Prevent engine from burning at all".

Hah, I don't even use that setting, so I haven't run into it. Generally, as long as my engines don't explode, I don't usually care about some minor overheating. :)

It only prevents explosions, it will let the overheat gauge get near the high end. Though I've begun to realize that overheating is almost never a dangerous problem.

I had checked the option thinking it was harmless to do so and couldn't figure out why MJ's ascent guidance wasn't throttling up when engaged. Saw the option was green and pieced it together, with a bit of a chuckle.

I would just love for someone to make a meme about MechJeb's horrible FAR-incorporated ascents. Same for its rather cruddy planetary intercepts, you need too much extra

Delta-V to capture at Dres based on MJ's orbital intercept. It's too steep. Otherwise it's fine, but let's not turn this into a MechJeb VS. Pilots argument; they never end well. :wink:

I still prefer my own skills versus a computer's. A virtual computer, for that matter.
