1> Zombies, the brain eating kind (slow moving) 2> Robot uprising 3> BIG Asteroid 4> Other.

This is about which is the cooler way? Then asteroid. There is something poetic in it, like an ancient Greek tragedy.

Too fast though. If we're all going to die, I at least want the show to last more than ten minutes.

I'd say an asteroid. I would grab my car and drive 800 km to the southeast where the Alps are and hide in one of the deep valleys. Probably a futile attempt if the asteroid wipes all life out though.

You might do alright for a while, until the sun disappears. You pretty much have two choices. Fire or ice.

Fast? The initial mayhem would last for an hour!

With a shockwave travelling at 500mph? You wouldn't get to see much before you were smashed.

But it would certainly make a particular aspect of recreation more worry-free.

Let's suppose I'm far enough to just see it start grazing the atmosphere at the horizon (otherwise it would fry me with thermal rays) and then it hits other side of the continent, so I get to see fireworks. It all depends what it hits, at what angle and where you are relative to it.

Interesting. I wonder if we'd kill ourselves by STDs before we all die of old age.

I would prefer to choose zombies. The brain eating, easy to topple over and destroy with shovels, rising from graves, non-infectious, weaker & slower than grandma kind.

Because it wouldn't really be an apocalypse when you topple over and destroy all the zombies, and you wouldn't really panic when you have medicine to fight regular infections that attack through zombie bites (Not zombie infections, mind you)

Robot uprising. Because according to XKCD with our current technology the most damage they can do would be a predator drone blowing up stuff in some middle eastern country and then crashing because it ran out of fuel. Fighting bots would be hilarious because they would be defeated with a bucket of water.

That depends on how far away you are. A small asteroid hitting a supervolcano would probably be enough to cause some pretty fireworks without incinerating everyone in line-of-sight around the Earth...for a few minutes anyway.

Why not just have an asteroid full of robots impact the planet. Those robots have radioactive weaponry which turns anyone nearby into zombies.

Add a volcano for good measure.

Mass destruction, robots, zombies. If there's going to be an apocalypse it should at least be a good one :P

If you're not near its path, and the supervolcano is on the horizon, you'd see a bright globe of light before you die from the shockwave. Any more closer, on in the path of the asteroid, and you'd be toasted, literally.

I'm assuming that I've been comatose on Earth. Since all life on Earth will be wiped out in 2 days, this makes for a very short apocalypse; with no life surviving. I choose Other; that Hawaiian vacation.

What about a movie-style alien invasion? Fireworks, chance of survival, and you might even fight them off!

If there was a chance at surviving a while, even if death was inevitable, I'd like a scenario that allowed me to see how many of the mofos I could take down with me.

Probably a vacuum metastability event. It's painless and instant, and there's no being sad for other dead people. You're all dead at practically the same time.

It's too instant. You wouldn't be able to know it's coming, and impossibility of detection due to lightspeed would probably disqualify it from "wake up from a coma and discover apocalypse in 48 hrs"
