Mechjeb. 1-2 years to transfer to another planet maneuver node

Hi all

Just reinstalling the game and mech jeb after 4 month without computer i found a problem. When i try to go from kerbin to duna, eve or another planet, mech jeb seems to plan a good maneuver mode but, i have 1, 2 or more years to reach the node.

Im in a good orbit, 100km with eccentricity 0 and inclination 0. Changing the inclination dont help. My mechjeb is the dev version and both, mechjeb and KSP are up to date. Mechkeb is working fine in all other routines but, cant undertand whats the problem with the waiting time to reach the transfer to another plane node.

Any help?

Sry for my awfull english and thanks in advantage

From the tutorial found on the KSP wiki for going to Duna:

While not absolutely essential, the easiest and fastest way to reach Duna from Kerbin is ensuring that they are properly aligned. Otherwise, you may spend a lot of time (possibly years) and fuel drifting until they happen to match up.

To do so, check your map and make sure that Duna is ahead of Kerbin in its orbit around Kerbol.

Look at it like a clock, if Kerbin is at 3 o'clock relative to the Sun, Duna should be at 1:30. Warp until they are in this position relative to each other.

Alternatively, you can visit The Interplanetary Guide and Calculator to calculate your own path.

So not related to MJ.

For future reference, I googled KSP transfer window Duna. It was the first result.

Also, MJ calculates the absolute best time to transfer that has the absolute lowest dV requirement - if burning in 15 minutes costs just like 10m/s more than a burn in 1 year, MJ will choose the later one. A combination of that and Kerbin days being 6 hours rather than 24, means nodes are almost always a year away.

If you have KAC installed, you might notice the first transfer to Duna used to occur on day I think 59, but now occurs in the next year - because of the shorter days.

What you wanna do is first escape Kerbin's SOI, once around the sun plot a hohmann transfer to your chosen planet. Once MJ carries this out, hit 'fine tune closest approach' and you'll get an encounter.

If you time right it's about 100-300 days.

This is why I use other means to plan out my interplanetary maneuvers, then once I've set up the node myself I'll use MechJeb to carry it out. I primarily use MJ for precisionâ€â€I know where I need to point and how long to burn, but my unfortunate case of stupidhands means I don't have the dexterity to get it done right.

Horrible advice: it will have him waste delta-v for nothing, possibly running out of fuel.

Don't do that.

Alexmoon would be reasonably rich by now if the transfer calculator site had ads. From me alone.

Ok mates, all is going good. Im making the transfer from an high orbit (500km) to make a high warp time ratio and dont waste too much real time (15 mins, not 3 hours). Mech jeb is working really fine in all other routines. I have a reusable fueling station at high orbit to start the transfer with all my fuel.

BTW, Thanks You very much for the mechjeb. For me, is a must have for KSP. I couldnt play without mechjeb!!!

If you'd rather do your burns from a lower, more efficient orbit, you can now time warp while in the Tracking Center without altitude limits.

Before that was possible, I used to keep a satellite in high orbit that I would switch to for warping to transfer windows. I know other players would put a craft on the launchpad and warp there before recovering it.
