Hey guys, this is just a simple poll I felt like posting on a whim.

The question of the matter is: Do you prefer to watch videos of the Experimentals team before the release is out, or do you wait until you can play the release for yourself?

If there will be videos available before the release (or after the release but when I can't try it out yet) I'll make sure to watch them. Yes, the delay between videos and release was painfully long last time but I don't blame Squad for that, such things just happen and hopefully won't repeat often.

Also keep in mind that we don't plan on allowing pre-release videos to get out there as early this time, just in case that was one thing that may have ruined your enjoyment a bit.

That's probably smart.

I like watching the experimentals videos, but I think the problem the last time around is that we thought we were getting an update sooner than it actually happened.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing test and development build videos throughout the process, but the community at large probably does better with a short hype-period right before release. :)

Personally, i wouldn't mind having a test version available every 1-2 weeks, so we can check for bugs.

I went back and watched some of the prerelease stuff from the last patch and I noticed a disturbing trend among some, not all, of those that were "showcasing" the content, and I have to say I was a bit put off by the way it was handled to be honest. I will not state names, as I could be misunderstanding how they wanted to sound. A lot of those who were given early access to the patch content were seemingly bragging that they got to do this first or that first, yet just barely glossing over what was changed and more interesting in boasting that they had it before the others in the community. My solution to this is a fairly simple one, but may seem a bit harsh at the same time. In act an NDA, Non Disclosure Agreement, to those of the early test group with a separate sub forum to discuss the workings of .24 and beyond, and also have a set standard of things they can, and more importantly, cannot do while in this group. Anyone found doing anything in violation of the NDA would be dropped from further access to these early access groups. These violations would include, but not limited too; using footage taken from these events to drive up personal youtube pages, posting images not cleared by Squad first to this forum, or other violations of that nature. This could also be used to rotate people into the early test phase for TESTING purposes ONLY. This would help control the content being showcased to people not able to play that version of things to come, rather than some the grandstanding that, I feel, has been done in the past.

Am I posting this because I want to do these testing type things myself? Actually I would rather not do them if I am going to be honest, rather I am offering up an idea to help others who would like to help with those early test phases maybe get an opportunity to do so. Some of the media team did an outstanding job at helping explain what was coming and showcasing the changes, but there were others who were a bit less humble about having the access to the update. In someways I am actually thankful that the coming update will have less information released beforehand, this makes me, I can only speak for myself, more excited to play it. I know I may get some flak for this stance, but honestly I felt disappointed by the behavior some of those who had early access the last time.

If some of the guys who showcased 0.23.5 seemed braggy, my view is that it was likely an issue with their delivery. I've chatted with every member quite a bit over the last year and they are all quite nice and friendly. None of them are the kind of people who say "I have something you don't" and mean it as a serious statement. That's my view at least, but I could be wrong as my outlook doesn't cover every second of the content they produce.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment, Liowen. I assure you that like anyone here, members of the groups like the media team and KSP-TV would be excited about having access to experimental builds (they *are* fans, after all), I wouldn't say it's to the point of holding it over anyone's head. There's a certain level of professionalism to be expected. If it's not there and you have thoughts that seem otherwise, let us know and we'll handle it.

The thing with all the media that gets out during pre-release is that those groups *are* under various NDAs. Their material would not be made available publicly without our consent. Unfortunately, the scheduling got way thrown off during the last go-round and the last minute issues we faced ended up stretching everything out way longer than it should have and we're sorry for that.

Videos are no use to me, pre-release or otherwise; I have to pay for my broadband and more than a few minutes per month (on top of everything I else I do) would breach my download cap.

For the same reason I don't watch (m)any tutorial videos, just read all the text. Kudos to the tutorial-makers though, at least they are usually much more informative than some bloke just waffling without saying anything.

I hardly watch any KSP videos. Video tutorials don't work well for me, I learn better by reading. Watching someone else play a game seems dull to me, though I know others feel differently. I basically only watch videos of interesting ships people post, if it shows something that can't be conveyed in pictures.

I voted "Yes," though I don't really seek them out. I watch several people's videos and some of them do pre-release vids, and I watch those.

My only problem with the last cycle's vids was the "This should be out by the time you're watching this" and "Releasing later today!" that I remember seeing in some vids. But I wasn't mad, just confused. And then I had to watch the forum explode :D
