Project Ares, interplanetary tug

Work on project Ares will soon be completed and she will be ready to do regular return trips to a permanent outpost on duna.

Ares is a 6800 part behemoth with an empty mass of about 700 tons. She's capable of transporting an entire duna base, a fuel depot, 2 fuel trucks, 2 rover, 2 rocketaircraft, a runway and 2 solar farms to duna in a single trip.

No mods used other than mechjeb, because the lag made it impossible to dock anything manually. Loading the ship takes 1-2 hours in realtime already, so i'm trying to find a way to actually attach the cargo to the ship, without crashing my pc. Enjoy!

I just said this in another post but you might as well bring the VAB with you. That thing looks beautiful. I can't belive people can deal with the lag, let alone dock. Anyways very well done.

That is extremely impressive, but why? Unlike some large things, there is just no way that can ever be practical. Unless you use mechjeb to do everything, it's got to be unusable with dat lag. Is your framerate above 10 frames a minute? That is seriously amazing and quite a piece of engineering.

Even the no-mods-evar purists probably don't care that you used mechjeb in it. Still, feels a little... how-you-say... overkill.
