LADEE- 5 solid rocket stages

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Here is my go at the LADEE moon probe and Minotaur V rocket.

The Minotaur V rocket has 5 stages of solid rocket boosters. I used bundles of SRBs to replicate this unusual rocket.

HOW TO FLY

Press T then Space bar

drop first stage, continue directly up

slow turn to 45degrees

drop second stage during turn

Stage the third set of SRBs (This will also release the payload fairing

Turn to 35degrees

drop fourth stage

You will be in a highly elliptical orbit

Fire 5th stage @ AP (PROGRADE)

Drop 5th stage

Use the LADEE liquid motors and taking advantage of the Oberth effect shoot to the Mun

Circularize @20,000m x 60,000m for that realistic LADEE view

There it is.

Thanks for looking.

You beat me to it, MJ. That's a beautiful spacecraft! :)

How did you control the ascent? My guess would be hidden reaction wheels between the SRBs.

LOL sorry mate. :D

Thanks I'm really happy with it! Yeah there are some reaction wheels in there for stability. It was not controllable without..

Lol, I built a very similar looking Peacekeeper ICBM for fun back in KSP 0.20. Funny enough, the actual Minotaur is technically a converted Peacekeeper missile.

Yup bang on! Reminds me of a certain Star trek movie. An ICBM converted into and exploration tool!
