A KSP mega-server

So I was looking at server lists, and what I noticed is that most servers had at the most, only 1 player on. Almost always 0 people on. This led me to come up with the idea. We should make a mega-server! If you play Minecraft, you know theres a couple of servers with up to 40,000 people on at once, while others only have 10 or 20. So, what would you guys think if we all made a mega server here on the forums, where we could all play together? Then as time goes on, more and more KSP users will discover it and start playing on it.

Yes, until multiplayer is added into stock game.

Seriously, even minecraft starts to die if a sever has more than 1000 people on. And those server actually are run on MANY servers. One server itself will die with only 100, and on KSP it will be die way faster.

Given that realistically I expect this server to have a steady population of no more than about 20 online at once (excluding the first few weeks), I support the idea. A mega-server with 1000 or (all possible deities forbid) 40,000 at once would of course have nightmarish lag (even CCP's mega-uber-server used for EVE has trouble with that), but I don't think our server will get anywhere near that crowded. So go ahead! I look forward to playing with everyone.

Isn't there a better mod out there now though? (I.E. less crashes)

No. Not KMP. DMP. KMP has been abandoned. DMP is teh future.

Oh, and by the way; DMP's server is, to quote the author of the mod, dumb as potatoes, which means it can handle quite a few more players

Problem about this is, I can't host the server if it requires port forwarding, etc which my dad won't let me do

One word: KLF. It doesn't get any simpler than that. And simple is what a mega server would absolutely have to be in the beginning. I'm not saying KMP or DMP could not be used, but I believe it's best to start with a setup as bare bones as possible, and only add more features when the basic stuff is working perfectly.

Yeah, it would be better to have a slow growing server than a mega buggy server.
