Small things at Ends of Large ships.

If you have a large ship, and you have small items up toward one end of it. Does anyone have any tips on clicking on them? I like to zoom in to click on them, but that always takes you in to the center of the ship. As far as I can tell there is no way to zoom in to the end. Sure you can rotate it so the end points at you and zoom in, but often the "top down" view isn't any better, what you need is a "side view at the end" (like you can get at the VAB).

I don't know if you know this already, but if you click and hold the middle mouse button (clicking down the scroll wheel) and drag you will pan in any direction from the center of mass, up to a certain angle. It works pretty good, but doesn't always do the trick.

You can also zoom out and turn your camera looking towards the front of the ship. Then te back of the ship becomes quite large as well.

I don't have a middle mouse button. Does one know what modifier key one could hold down to do the same thing? (On a Mac.)

Left Shift + arrow keys should allow for the same functionality, IIRC.

Might be remappable, try looking over control settings.
