PLEASE PLEASE look into producing injection molded kerbal figures. injection molding is considerably cheaper, when compared to the 3d printing process you currently use. granted that process might result in a nicer looking piece, but i cannot be dropping 120$ usd to aquire my 3 favorite space explorers.

im not saying drop your 3d printed line, but add an "economly line" or something. better still, mold them in green and let us assemble and paint them, like a testors model kit.

Although I did get the 3D printed models, I agree with you. If I wanted to gift these to others, it would quickly add up on total price. That sounds like a good alternative.

Perhaps Squad could provide temporary sales periods, similar to how the game goes on sale on Steam? I believe they have done this during Christmas once.

The problem is that making injection mold for even a basic figurine is very expensive. It'd be hard to get tooling cost lower than several tens of thousands of $.

Molded plastic is cheap when you're making thousands of parts, otherwise it's prohibitively expensive. I doubt Squad can find ten thousand people who want a Kerbal figurine.

yeah anything. id suggest lowering the price, but they are in this to make money. a cheaper production method and a cheaper price may even give an increased profit. just look into it and crunch numbers. id love to send you my paper currency in exchange for a physical item.

edit:

is that so? hmm that make sense. what other alternatives are there that wouldnt cost us 50$ per model and could still make a good profit for squad?

Injection molding is cheaper, but only for large production runs. There are higher setup costs than for 3D printing. Limited temporary sales periods of injection molded figures wouldn't make sense.

Printed sandstone isn't cheap, those prices are probably very near at-cost already.

agree. that is what i am trying to say here

ideally developers could add a feature to game (like save ship in 3d.) well which is less probable. What is more possible just sell standart parts in .stl or other 3d format. in shapeways or thigiverse.

Modemakers which create mods for part could also make a penny here and make ppl happy.

that would be great if you could build a ship in KSP and after all those exciting moments of landing, docking, flying to distant planets you could put that ship on your shelf.
