How To Get Satellites To Communicate?

Recommended Posts

So I have only been playing KSP for about a week and today I built my first satellite. I got it into a circular orbit at 374,000m but I don't think it is transmitting to my satellite on the ground. Isn't there a red line on the map to show when it is transmitting? Also I now have a yellow circle outside my orbit that has two red markers on it that say target position 1 & 2. I have the antenna opened and the solar panels/batteries are working fine. Am I missing something?

Im sorry to say, but satellites are useless right now.

You were probably watching some youtubers launch communication satellites, right? Well, if you saw a red line in the video, they were using the mod "RemoteTech2", and if you're new to the game, i don't suggest installing it, it just makes thing harder.

This is because you have set a target to something, probably another ship. If you click on the ship you think it might be you can use the "unset target" option.

Like slimecrusher said, the mod is most likely RemoteTech2. I have been playing kerbal for just over a week too, and was confident enough to install it, and I'm having a great time and challenge. But if you're still not comfortable with the game then rather don't use it. If you are you could always give it a go.

Your question has been answered already but I'll expand on it anyway. The functionality you're referring to comes from the RemoteTech 2 mod. (found here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/83305-Development-Resumed-RemoteTech-2) I would not advise this mod for new players such as yourself as it makes the game much harder, especially with unmanned launches. Of course as always the choice is yours and if you feel competent feel free to give it a try
