It`s obvious it`s soon, why not tell us when the update will be out?

... then there is that first crewed Moon landing anniversary coming up ... :)

Yeah, Monday the 21st seems tempting in that regard.

(Technically the landing was on the 20th, but that's a Sunday, and the EVA took place on the 21st.)

Just look at the amount of text from one user about this topic without even any etas given. Multiply this by 100 for every hour a potential given eta passes by, and you have a guess about the kind and amount of threads we would see here. No thanks :)

The amount of text was to reply to people with the same position as you.

Your reasoning to not having a well established release protocol is that not having one causes threads like this...

I really think you missed it but my suggestion would be to have a client that was release ready, then release it to the media and announce at the same time.

That makes your objection moot and would eliminate people posting threads like this for example.

My solution is also the solution to the issues your objection is based on...

I don't see a substantive difference between no release date and an unreliable release date. Other than the righteous fury that would take over the community when a release date is pushed back.

Please understand my proposal is to have a reliable release date because the backend has been done properly. If it isn`t being done properly then it should be?

Young and inexperienced coders use the term "will be out". Your more seasoned coders use the term "should be out". Too many times coders get hit with unexpected problems, delays, or new demands from management so the aforementioned term "will be out" disappears from the lexicon after a sufficient amount of beatings.

I think this thread should get locked right now.

I agree what with the rational and reasoned responses it is getting. I`ve made my point and now I really feel like letting go at some people.

As I see it, the only way to have a reliable release date is to have a comfortable fudge factor built in to avoid late release if something goes awry in testing. If everything goes according to plan, that leaves time at the end when the game is ready for release but we haven't reached the date, so we'd be waiting longer for the game.

I'd rather have it as it is now, but I understand those who are willing to trade getting the game sooner for an accurate release date.

I'm expecting there to be a lot of disagreement among fans over gameplay balance issues. I fully expect there to be a lot of noise coming from vocal minorities because they feel that the game is "forcing" them to play in a way they don't like, due to the cost of certain parts.

The likelihood is that even if all of the bugs that emerged during development have been found and squished, there will still be gameplay balance issues coming up during testing. At some point, Squad will decide that they've tweaked everything enough and are ready to release the patch into the wild.

Despite this, I still expect threads to appear entitled "OMG Squad, Nerf Frost Mages!" :D

I would like a date, but that's because I am away at sea for 3 months starting Thursday, and I want to know if I'll be able to enjoy the contracts while I'm away :D

Other than that selfish reason, I prefer Squad's method of not releasing dates.

That process should now be over. The media team have the final build in their hands. Absent some unforeseen and undetected bug, what the media team got a couple days ago is what we will be getting eventually. Watch SteamDB.
