How do I complete a rescue contract?

Recommended Posts

So I just got into orbit to rescue Danfred Kerman, I'm right up next to him, but I can't take control of him to get him into my ship. Anyone else have this issue or know what I am doing wrong?

Well, in this case. You will have to build a cage, cage him, and bring him back to Kerbin surface?

However, I don't think SQUAD will did this kind of stupid bug. I'm pretty confident that you can have the EVA Kerbal to enter your ship, somehow...maybe, get very very very near to him?

AND please confirm that you install 0 mod. If you are moded some how it affect the game play, thats your problem.

I saw this question several times already. For people who already know all the controls it seems obvious but for new players it isn't. I think there should be a message when you get close to press [ to switch, or just auto-switch when you get really close.

I have to clarify that the use of keys "[" and "]" to switch to the nearby object just work in us/english-like keyboards. It is not my case, for example. In my keyboard is the button right next to the zero button.

I tried using the brackets to switch to the other kerbal but I can't move or control him to get in to the ship. Anyone know how to make him get in to my ship, I'm just 5m away this is frustrating.

EDIT: Nevermind just had to press R to enable his jetpack.

Yeah, and there should be an option to switch to the EVA kerbal from the mouse right-click menu. I mean we already have the "control from here" function, so it just needs to be extended to EVAs. Far more intuitive than a keyboard binding for new players.

It's a classic issue for us superior beings not condemned to use US/UK keyboards.

We learn to remap 'silly keys' (as in those who is in the wrong place on a US/UK keyboard) to our personal preferences ;)

ps.

As I have the bad habit of using both Swedish and UK/US keyboards, I just remapped 'em back to where they are on the inferior keyboard.

How close do you have to be in order to use the [ or ] key to switch to the Kerbal? I have no monopropellant on my rocket and the closest I can get is 10km.

Monopropellant is only "needed" for docking (some people dock with solid fuel :D), rendezvous shouldn't be a problem. I also use a ship with no monoprop for rescue missions and don't have trouble getting within 300m of the EVA Kerbal, then I switch and bring him on board with his jetpack.

Just adding one more voice to say how unintuitive this is, if it weren't for this thread I don't think I'd ever have found out!

I get KSP is not really known for it's accessible controls but it's the first time I got this frustrated by not knowing what I'm doing wrong. Well, maybe since my first docking.

Same here.

Docking is more intuitive. The only thing I had to do for it is to find the RCS controls - everything else went fine (though it took few attempts).

IMHO the best way to fix it would be by adding right-click menu to Kerbals with "switch to" option (that's the first thing I looked for, but there was nothing) - alternative would be to add "grab" option while in EVA close to another Kerbal - it'll hold him and then, when you are close enough to the ship doors, it'd automatically put Kerbal in the capsule.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
