$30k Spaceplane Challenge.

Recommended Posts

Build a spaceplane that costs under $30000 and make it do something impressive.

Categories are:

Payload mass to orbit.

1. Mesklin in the SSTO Lifter $30K. 18000 kg

cost/kg of payload delivered (no abusing the payload).

1. Mesklin in the SSTO Lifter $30K. $1572

Highest delta-v after reaching a stable orbit (You know what, be my guest, use an ion engine if you want).

1. Pds314 in the Ultra-Cheap SSTO. 1260 m/s.

Most Kerbals to orbit or beyond. (No lawn chairs or ladders or Kerbals on claws here.)

1. Pds314 in the Ultra-Cheap SSTO. 1 Kerbal

Most exotic sample returned (landing crew on: Kerbin, Minmus, Mun, Duna, Gilly, Ike, Laythe, Dres, Pol, Bop, Vall, Eeloo, Moho, Tylo or Eve's surface and returning. Scored in that order.)

1.

Largest Asteroid Captured.

1.

"Is this challenge possible?

Many challenges we see are nearly or literally impossible to achieve, and usually very little thought has gone into them, these challenges just annoy people, waste forum space and show that the submitter hasn't really tried.

So test your challenge yourself first to make sure it is possible, you don't have to be successful but you'll soon know if the challenge has a hope of being completed."

While this is just a guideline, it would be polite to complete the challenge yourself first.

Yes. I have an SSTO that costs $9231.0. Surely someone can make something costing 3 times that amount. In fact, if you removed the SAS, RCS, and docking ports from the stock Aeris 4A, you have an a viable entry.

Post-orbit Delta-V 1260.

Payload delivered: none yet.

Cost/kg of payload: infinite so far.

Most Kerbals to orbit: 1.

Asteroids: 0.

Most Exotic Landing Location: Kerbin.
