Make shift+tab pause the game

Recommended Posts

Steam users like myself can press shift+tab and open the steam browser. thats nice for when I want to pop on the forums and ask a question here, or check the wiki to see at what altitude dunas atmosphere starts, or anything. Games like Skyrim Auto pause when the shift+tab is pressed. That would be a great feature for ksp since otherwise, shift will throttle up the boosters, which i do accidentally sometimes when trying to consult the forums or wiki.

While I agree there should be a pause function (maybe defaulted to shift+tab, but obviously changeable), what you've described is the reason I always deactivate all engines and lock staging whenever I'm not either about to or actively performing maneuvers.

You have to keep in mind that if you hit shift first, before tab, instead of the other way around, it still wouldn't work, when you came back, your throttle would be slightly (on). Best way around it, hit esc to pause. then go about your business.

I play windowed and rarly utilize steam overlay in my game. I understand your problem, but after 600+ hours of play time not once have i actually had trouble with this. The few times i did want to use the steam overlay i just paused the game BEFORE calling it up. I can see how this can create problems, but again after half a thousand hours i still don't have trouble.

Hi.

I looked at this thread, looked at the KSP API, saw that it would take five minutes, and here you are. One "MusicPauser" mod. As soon as a Curseforge moderator has approved it, that little mod will catch game pause/unpause events and silence/restore the background music as appropriate.

HTH.

The source code is here.

thats impressive man!

i see now that my idea wouldn't work because pressing shift at all would throttle up even a little bit, but im glad some good came out of my thread, so ill just press esc first from now on. once a few people have seen your handy tool feel free to lock this up

Thanks! You should consider putting it in its own thread where it won't sink into oblivion.

Bind the throttle to another key? :)

I set throttle to page up/down and staging to insert above the four arrow keys.
