My next project are the Soyuz 7K-OK and 7K-T. The 7K-OK models will come in two variations, probe and drogue. This will allow the player to simulate the Soyuz 4 & 5 docking as well as Salyut 1 if converted to oks which I will eventually do.

For the 7K-T the player will be able to simulate any of the later Salyut missions as well as the ASTP. The 7K-T will also come in two verisons, with and without solar panels. Without solar panels are for the Salyut missions and with is for ASTP and some test flights.

NOTES:

-This will be compatible with my Molniya-8K78 rocket as well as bobcats Soyuz U

Do you know how thrusters are laid out on 7K-OK? I can help you with that if you want. Also, will there be an IVA?

Oh, and please try making a detailed thermal blanket texture. The solar panels look a bit too much like something from Orbiter. IMO, that's not good enough for KSP, it can do a lot better than Orbiter.

Soyuz-3. The only pic I could find. The white ring is some sort of fairing interface. You can see the umbilical (notice which side it's on) and panels (notice no "cutouts" like in Orbiter texture).

I have the rcs thrusters already placed you can't really see them in the picture but they are there. There will be an IVA. I got bobcat's permission again to use his. I just need to remove the middle seat in the cfg and move the other 2 closer together, good enough. I have textures for the thermal blankets already it won't be flat green. The solar panels will either be temporary to be replaced later or I'll do away with them entirely and someone can just throw bobcat's or whatever on it.

I'm not including that white ring on the 7k-ok as to reduce part counts and simplify the mod I'm making most of the parts interchangeable so in the case of the 7k-ok you would jsut switch out the orbital module.

That white ring is actually a part of the payload fairing. It's not present in the orbital configuration. Also, are you sure BobCat's IVA will do? I'm not convinced. His IVA is designed for Soyuz TMA, which has been vastly changed from the 7K-OK. Unless you're talking the old, underdetailed one, that is. Oh, and using BobCat's panels will not work. The best you could hope for with them an 7K series would be the Soyuz ASTP, which had straight solar panels and green exterior. On the other hand, it's docking system was completely different, notably lacking the great big IGLA antenna and with an androgynous docking port.

So I am still working on this. I finished the 7K-OK drogue orbital module. Next will be the probe. I have no idea how to make parachutes so that is what is currently holding this project up. I'm considering using the realchutes module.

The textures (on the parts that have them) look pretty good. Will you make a normal map for the blankets? On BobCat's Soyuz it was required to get a good, realistic look. There's a tutorial for that on the forum.

Unwrapped the textures for the parts that are supposed to have gold foil, added a quick texture. It was impossible to find a non-watermarked high res gold foil texture and I am not going to "buy" one for this. I took a regular tin foil texture and made it gold. Now the only untextured parts(simple color diffuse) of the model are the tiny button details and such.

Good job on the foil. I'd say, the thermal blankets could perhaps be a bit more pronounced, especially on the "seams". They could definitely use a normal map.

Also, for the "button details", I'd suggest still getting a texture. The flat textures usually look like plastic, while those parts were usually painted metal.

I am really looking forward to this release. I don't know why but I just can't get enough of the early Soviet space program.

Thanks in advance for putting in the time to provide both active and passive versions of 7K-OK as well as the 7K-T Ferry.

I am curious if you had any plans to do the white and light blue paint scheme? I honestly don't know of a Soyuz ever flew with that paint job but I have always liked it.

Thanks again for all your work on these outstanding historical packs.

I actually did the white/blue and black colored with the old bobcat Soyuz which is no longer included in his packs. Since he gave me permission to use the old soyuz parts for this I suppose I could include the alt textures I made for it. The reason you never saw that paint scheme I believe is because all soyuz craft had thermal blankets on them which would cover any paint scheme underneath though.

Ok the descent module is done. I am having several problems with it though. The atmosphere doesn't seem to be affecting the capsule. You can spin it in any direction and it doesn't pull to a specific rotation while in the atmosphere(despite using the bobcat COM changer for descents plugin). This means you have to use the SAS to "hold" the heatshield position down. Also, the bobcat landing rockets cause the pod to spin out of control on firing, I think this likely has to do with the atmosphere issue as well.

Once I get a working service module I am going to be looking for testers to help me work out these problems, hopefully experienced modders who can work out the cause of these issues as this is the first part I've made that actually had to reenter the atmosphere and survive I am not familiar with the aerodynamic settings that may be affecting this.

Also, for the parachute I am likely going to "hide" a realchute parachute inside the parachute bag on the descent module which is how I'm testing it now. I did make a parachute model but I have no interest in implementing it.

If you would like to help in testing please PM me and once I get the SM working I'll send out prerelease links.

Check the OP. That's not BobCat's model.

raidernick, I'd love to test, but only if you can supply time as well as the files :D

Im sorry phrased it wrong. It should be "or are you going to use your own models" I don't know what thread it was but he did say bobcat gave him permission for the soyuz. I was basically asking if bobcat gave him permission to use his r7 models and if he was going to use it. Thats what it should have been
