Do you switch W/S and I/K controls?

  1. 1. Do you change key bindings for W/S and I/K

    • I switch W and S
    • I switch I and K
    • I switch W/S and I/K
    • I keep them as default
    • I use either as easily

I believe as default they are set up to mimic the action of an aircraft joystick i.e. pulling back raises the nose and pushing forward lowers it. For anyone who flies or has flown, pressing W or I to go 'down' and S or K to go 'up' feels perfectly natural.

Most games involving flying use the default layout as KSP does, but give the option of inverting it. Whatever is most natural for you to press when you think: "GO UP! Don't crash on me now!" is preference and perfectly fine of course.

Standard. Pulling up and pushing down is deeply ingrained into my expectations of controls; I always have to put gamepad sticks on 'inverted' so that it remains true there as well.

They are games with pushing up and pulling down? Frightening

I switch just W/S, but that is so the navball lines up. That way I control 'towards' my target during launch.

As KSP is my game with 'flight' controls I've sunk my teeth into in a long time, I had no prior expectations.

I quickly learned to fly by the nav ball so I bound the keys accordingly.

The default layout is perfectly natural for me. It's consistent with flight sims and the way aircraft controls function. (though admittedly, if it were following airplane controls, then A/D should roll and Q/E should yaw, since W/A/S/D is presumably emulating yoke, with rudder in Q/E, but the current layout is more consistent with other games).

I leave rotational controls alone, I think they are fine as they are. I do however compleatly scrap the RCS translation controls and move them over to the numberpad. the physical placement of the keys they chose for RCS always drives me batty but there are other important keys in the area that I'd rather not move to fix it. I use 8,2,4,6 for up down left right, 5 for toggleing RCS and 7 and 1 for accelerate/decelerate. Spatially very logical for me and it also leaves my right hand closer to the mouse if I need to adjust my camera.

I do this as well, except for the 5. But now that you've mentioned it, I'll probably add that to my setup, and maybe a key for SAS, as well.

Ironicly I dont actualy use that 5 for RCS toggle all that often. As I tend to have my left hand on the rotation keys at the same time as I'm useing the RCS just in case I need to correct for off ballance thrusters I end up useing R and T for SAS and RCS toggles. I do have the hotkey there and use it on occasion it just ended up being one of those great ideas I had while setting it up that didnt prove as useful as expected.

I use an xbox 360 controller, so any time I have something bound to a key it behaves backwards to how I expect, given that I always have my joysticks inverted to behave like this:

to mimic the action of an aircraft joystick i.e. pulling back raises the nose and pushing forward lowers it ... feels perfectly natural.

So I always swap the keys from the default.
