Unintended consequence of 50% throttle on loadup

Recommended Posts

Of course I can understand that you may prefer if stupid ignorants like me don't play the game at all. It's much better if only smart people do so, right?

I recently came across a bunch of people where I was genuinely surprised that they even know KSP. As it turned out, they played "launching rockets" for an afternoon or two before pushing it aside. They were of the opinion that they got their money's worth from that cute little game. Who am I to judge? I wouldn't be surprised to learn that these, how do you call them, casual players? were responsible for most of the sales.

Still, having some switch somewhere would be a good thing. People don't stay clueless newbies for long and the kind of person that cares about this *will* find the toggle to turn it off. It just has to be there in the first place.

Unfortunately this thread has devolved into a bit of bitterness; let's keep it light, shall we?

It seems to me unintended that this should be so, nevertheless I suggest that changes to the throttle persist through timewarping on the launchpad to avoid this issue.

I agree with this. I don't see a reason why time warping on the launchpad should reset the throttle to its initialization setting, and I have been affected by this as well.

I also agree with many of the other players in this thread suggesting that the throttle initialization setting be configurable. I feel pretty strongly about it too, so I created a Feedback Report about it.

Yea 50% throttle do not make sense. 0% is "safe". I prefer that.

Also I do like the new feature (not added in 0.24) where you can set a throttle limit. But I would like to have an action groupe to overide that setting, its good for rocket that have luiqed fueld boosters that separates while a core booster still burns and needs 100% throttle after the outer booster are jettisoned. A good real world example is the Delta IV heavy that runs pertial trust on the center booster until the outer boosters are jettisoned.

I dont like having to click the engine and increase thrust manually. An action group that allows the engine to be set to 0% or 100% at least would be nice with a smooth power up curve.

Half-throttle is no big deal if it's just on the launchpad (although 100% throttle would be a much more sensible default). The major problems were the bugs that caused throttles to reset themselves midflight.

^ This right here. On the launchpad I don't care but this change is causing the throttle to reset to 50 at times other than on the launchpad which is catastrophic to an in progress flight.

I'm with the group of people who think that having the throttle start at 50% is annoying, arbitrary, and entirely unnecessary. Why not have it start at 75%? Or 30%? Or 16.5842%? 0% makes sense because you may ostensibly have players who want to do things with their rockets (like test how much throttle it takes to take off), and would rather just start up, hit space, and then slowly push their thrust up. 100% has more merit than 50%, though I don't necessarily support 100% throttle because again, somebody might not want to launch when they start up. It's not a gamebreaker for me. Just silly.
