Disppearing Contracts

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen this reported as a bug, so it may be a conflict with one of my mods but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I accepted two contracts, one to bring science back from space, and one to test an engine while in orbit. I built my rocket, went to the launch pad, and the contracts were gone.

I went back to mission control, thinking I must have done something wrong. Those two contracts were no longer being accepted. I checked the Archives, and it's completely blank. No longer showing any of my completed contracts from previous game sessions.

Also, the experimental part that I was suppose to test still shows blue and I can put it on my rockets, as if the contract is still valid; it just doesn't show on my list of current contracts.

Thanks.

Could the contract possibly have timed out? You are given a certain amount of time to complete a contract.

If your other contracts are disapearing, it may be a bug with the game or other mods.

That's what I thought at first, even though I went straight from Mission Control to the VAB to launch. But when I returned to Mission Control it didn't show it as failed, actually, it didn't show anything. My archived missions is blank. To be fair, I hadn't checked archives before, maybe it's always blank.

Another thing I noticed on my next mission, I pressed F9 to return to a quick-save made minutes earlier, when I did, the mission I was doing was now gone, my reputation and money were back to what they were when I started a new game. I was able to revert to the VAB and my money and reputation returned to normal.

Based on only one other person witnessing this (that I can find) in their game, I'm going to guess it's mod related. I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can figure out which one(s).

Thanks. :-)

I've seen this too, and for a while thought I was crazy. The worst part is it's an accidental money-making scheme in the early game. I take the Duna, Ike and Eve contracts, they vanish, and then they appear again so I can take them again for more down payments.

It first happened (or at least I first noticed it) when I upgraded from 0.24 to 0.24.2 (skipping 0.24.1) and I thought that caused it, but it's happened since.

I have suspected it's the mods I have installed. It happens to me on 2 installs that have some mods in common but not all. The mods that are in both games are:

KER

ScienceAlert

Ambient Light Adjustment

KAC

Enhanced Navball

PreciseNode

NavHud

EVE

Texture Replacer

Alternate Resource Panel

Do you have any of these installed? If we can narrow it down we could try different combinations of the mods to see if we can find a correlation.

Well then that rules out (a single) mod as the cause. It may be something odder, though I don't know what.

Seems odd it's happening to a small subset of us, if it's not a mod.

FTR I'm running the 32 bit version. I tried 64 bit but it had too much wonky for me.

I've seen this too, the odd thing is that I could still find it in my Persistent.sfs file

It happened a few times. The first time, I panicked and force quit the game before persistence could be overwritten. The second time I quick saved then reloaded and my contracts were back.

So I'm leaning towards this just being a display issue though it could obviously be more severe than that. Horseman, what was the outcome of your situation? Are they permanently gone?

What else I'm thinking is that it could be more than cosmetic but as long as you don't take other contracts or do anything that could affect the contract list then you'll be able to recover by restoring as I did above. Otherwise it seems likely that if the internal list is altered with new contracts, it could overwrite the save files with the new list that it built internally and then your contracts would truly be lost. (hopefully it really is just cosmetic)

I wondered about it being a display issue too, so I completed the mission to see if I would get the reward. I didn't. :-(

The weird thing is, since it happened, the experimental part continues to display in the VAB, blue like usual, but I'm able to use it on any mission even though I haven't researched it. Those usually return to being locked after you complete the mission.

Until seeing the list of mods above I was leaning toward it being something with the Mission Controller mod. After choosing a mission and having it disappear in the VAB, I logged out, removed Mission Controller, logged back in and the mission displayed correctly. That would seem to suggest it is a display issue. I put Mission Controller back and the mission remained visible, so it may have just been a coincidence.

It might be a 32-bit problem. I am having the same problems as well on a 32-bit install, and I don't have any of those mods.

Experimental parts are added through the science/tech section of the save file and not the contracts section.

They're in a separate list for experimental parts and not on the tech tree. They're removed from that list on completion of the contract that caused them to be added and I think also if you research that part.

Skeeve!! I loved the Myth series! :-)

I should have mentioned earlier, I'm running the 64-bit option.

lol @ Starwaster. I think you owe the forums an apology for that. :-P

So it happened to me again, and I think you might be right about it being a display issue. I've been diligent about saving the game, with a different save name every few mission. As soon as it happened (everything blank including archives), I reloaded to a save from minutes before. The contracts I had taken are now showing an all my past completed missions are visible again in the archive tab.
