Yeah so I'm building a battleship. Based off all the rule on the first page. How would I get in on this?

Probably, best to download some people's ships, see how they're built. Then, you want to build your own navy- I suggest having a fighter (10 tons), destroyer (75 tons), cruiser (100 tons), and battleship (150-200 tons). Then, ask others if they would like to battle, set rules, weights, etc, and fight. Then, take the shortcomings from the battle and learn from them to make your force better.

I've been working on this:

The old Mk-V Victory has some problems that I've only just noticed, and some are only fixable by completely re-designing the craft.

So I made a new Victory class, with weapons attached to 4 points (That means that it would take four shots to disarm her).

She is armed with four of my own 'Popper' missiles and four SRB-powered missiles.

Those do look very popper-esque :D

I fear that I've made a mistake, they're just 26 parts each.

Zeke's ships, my ships, Megalodon's ships, and the others on here are all great ways to check out different designs and learn from them. Also, something I'll suggest is to test out your craft against comparable vessels by loading up battles (persists) that people have posted (but that you're not directly involved in), and using the save for it as a sort of "firing range". It helped me in the past with developing my tactics and refining my somewhat homebrew munitions.

What are you powering them on? That's probably the difference... i have some 20 parts for the engine mount, although it is virtually weightless...

Exactly, there are so many ships that are released for you to test - it's a good way to learn from our experience, without having to spend the long time we've been spending making these ships.

And there's the hard to duplicate armor on my destroyer. :P

I just downloaded the "Curtana-Dreadnought" which I think was made by Megaladon. 900+ parts. From first looks I note that you literally need to supply the fuel to get to wherever it is you are going. Pretty awesome. And now I know where to aim at... :)

That's spartwo's ship, and yes, that fuel tank is delicious :D

900 parts is in the upper range of ships, but for battleships of that size he did a great job of keeping part count down. My Drek 30 is 1450 parts ATM, but it has the D/V to visit the whole Jool system and come back, thanks to its ION power system.

Note that this is at the expense of hour-long burn times. For my ships at least I like Ion drives only on smaller vessels, whereas I use pure nuclear on larger ones to A: Reduce part count; and B: Not have to deal with incredibly low accelerations. If the devs gave us larger and more powerful Ion engines or something like a VASIMIR (extremely high power consumption, slightly lower ISP, much higher thrust) and larger xenon tanks I would reconsider, but right now it takes far too many parts to make an even halfway practicable ion drive for large vessels.

true, but for me, part count and TWR are not really important to me, I'm okay with letting a ship burn for hours. Also, the Drek XXX has 4 LV-Ns for combat power, so unless I really get stuck, there's no need to use the ion power in combat - it's really only for ferry range (or unless spartwo does another one of those moho-to-eve orbit changes :P )

Here, have some downloads:

Sorry I've been absent for a while. Zamo, do you want to battle on 0.90 now that you have it?

As much as I want battle I have no ships available for battle for now. I think I'll scrap the "Atlantis" an the "Aurora" for now, their construction is crude and flawed.

I'll keep you updated when I have a new ship.

A good rule: never use your newest ships in combat - That's why I didn't go with my Victoria's this battle, I went with slightly older but more tested versions. Always go with what you know works at the moment.

Neat! a new player! Oh my, you have so much to learn. Just skim through this thread and you should be fine building your own ship.

That is if you have mastered the game completely, like knowing how to dock, make orbits, and etc.

The Hyperedit Mod is great help for sending ships to orbit instantly. (Although you can do it manually which is tedious)

So true - this is really for people who've found Kerbin-Laythe-Kerbin to be a milk run - although judging by his post count and join date, I'm sure he's got that covered :D

And hyperedit is your god, without it it's almost impossible to fine-tune your warships...

EDIT: Here's my first KSP warship ever - the Burke. Pitiful little beast, it was literally designed to ram other ships, unfortunately it was so bad it destroyed itself in the process. July 2013, ages ago.

I am currently constructing a capital ship to replace the TZO Class Heavy Cruiser, as well as an approximately 60-ton frigate (it is still in early stages of design). Both are using a new construction technique made more feasible by the 0.90 editor tools that effectively gives the ships several meters of armor. I shall post screenshots when things are closer to completion...

I fear to imagine how much damage my Praegrandis could do if ramming were allowed.

Anyway, here's my first ship.

I had to go to the old thread to find this, I had to endure my own unacceptable grammar, pitiful first designs (like the one above) and silly missiles that would struggle to kill an orange fuel tank.

Quick question. Do I need to make a launcher? Or do I need to Hyperedit into orbit? Both are fine.

But let me tell you, hyperedit is just fine, and I suggest using it all the time - I haven't launched a warship legitly in a year.

Well, you also have the justification that Zokesia has a launcher that can put 800 tons in LKO, and you just do not feel like strapping your designs to it. The rest of us operate on a meta-level of that: For example, I know that I could make a launcher that could put my ships in orbit, which I could then use for the above justification. Or we could just say, "They were assembled in orbit!" :P
