Add-on subforums?

Hi all, lately i'm struggling with some specific add-on problem, and seeking for help in the add-on releases forum is a real P.I.T.A., as the most popular add-ons tend to generate gigantic threads (FAR has more than 500 pages, MJ beats 700, Interstellar a whopping 1090 pages!)...

Do you think it's coincevable to open subforums dedicated to the most common mods? e.g. Mechjeb subforum, FAR subforum, Kethane...

Trying to trace a specific problem in a single 10.000+ replies thread is't fun at all...

I can imagine your problem but we'd be encountering two problems:

  1. A complete loss of oversight on the forums where we'd have a large number of sub-forums in that one section
  2. Who determines which mod gets its own forum? Favoritism is right around the corner

For those two reasons it's unlikely that we'll have dedicated forums for specific mods.

Having subforums for every single mod is plainly impossible. Some issues only turn up with more than one mod present, with specific combinations of mods, etc. The Add-on Support forum is where most issues with mods go; try searching in there, it's quite possible someone has figured out a solution already.

A better solution, I think, would be to periodically lock the old thread and start a new one, linking to the new thread at the end of the old one, and back to the old thread at the beginning of the new one. This is a pretty common way to handle the big threads on forums. No information is lost, and the active discussion isn't burdened with 1000 posts about bugs fixed in 2013.

I`d say to use the current Add on requests and support forum. You`ll get the help you need without having to trawl through 1000+ pages of old, often not relevant, posts.

Even in the busy threads you can still ask a question. If the same question has been asked a lot you may get pointed to earlier in the thread (although IMHO the OP should have a FAQ with answers to frequently asked questions in the OP)

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
