Sims 4 forum thread tracks 78+ missing features. Many of these are major.

Some of the restrictions that were made were made due to restrictions in the game engine, to which I say Bull. If the engine can't handle water, DON'T USE THAT ENGINE. Same with varied terrain(the terrain is flat). It's also missing Create a Style, something that has been very important to the Sims 3. It's 2014 and they can't handle color changing?

There's also no open world, no normal careers, and no open world. This is back down to The Sims 2, just with better graphics.

These engine restrictions are things that should be so simple to just MAKE A PART of the engine.

I will not be buying The Sims 4. I suggest you do the same. Don't waste your time with it.

I like the Sims, but I won't be buying Sims 4, EA got enough money out of me when I bought Sims 3 and four of the expansions.

Out of curiosity I looked into how much it would cost to buy all the Sims 3 expansions and it was a shock.

So many features that should be standard (weather, pets, spiral stairs, the majority of careers, etc.) are left to expansion packs that come to hundreds of pounds to buy.

EA goes way beyond greed into downright taking the ****

Just don't buy any EA games.

I suppose that would be a good idea, if I didn't used to support the studio behind the game itself (Maxis). But EA/maxis needs to feel defeat on this because of their cut corners. They need to feel Spore again here. Best hope is that The Sims 5 will begin development in a year.

And I really hope more avid Sims fans won't be blindsighted by the Shiny New Features enough to forget about the lost ones. I mean for Kraken's sake, If they used Unity they could have gotten a better result. As a matter of fact, I'm almost certain you could write a good Sims game in Unity if you were skilled enough. Maybe Maxis' hiatus after the official failure of Spore made the programmers a little rusty.

Seriously, is there any reason to get Sims 4 over Sims 3? From all I know the only big new features are a better editor and supposedly better emotions(I haven't really paid much attention to the Sims 4 though, so I could be wrong). Considering how many features are missing this looks more like a prequel to Sims 3 than a sequel.

We had a thread about this a month or so back. I posted that same list if missing features. Screw EA and everything they stand for. There the scum of the video game industry. What would it take for a significant boycott?

'Necessary' DRM?

It would almost seem EA is trying hard to ruin successful franchises. First they murdered Simcity, now they do it all over with The Sims. They are the Michael Bay of games.

EA, it's not in the game. It just used to be.

Don't know if the code is still valid but if you type "I-LOVE-THE-SIMS" on the redeem page of origin it will unlock the "Ultimate" Edition of The Sims 3 for Free. Worked for me anyway but that was last month so the code my have expired by now. I don't really play the game to be honest but took the opportunity of something free from EA.

That code was for Sims 2.

I tried Sims 3 with some expansions once, but it had massive bugs. When my savefile grow larger than 500mb (and that happened quite fast on travel) it just stopped working, several updates didnt help. After that im done with Sims...

wow, this reminds me of mass effect. 1 was a huge open world where you could explore planets, explore great extents of the citadel and what have you. 2 got rid of planet exploration(which i loved to my dismay), but still was a sizeable amount to roam about. then 3 comes along. the citadel is a joke of its former size, and basically all you can do is replay missions and not explore much at all once you beat it. if you can create this huge open world in the first game there's no excuse why you can't do it even better in a later game. ea really blows

...

If it weren´t for the fact that only the active household ages and gets simulated (and all others stays static and don´t age)

Sims 2 would be the best part of the series

I own v3. Seems I already own a superior game.

It's basically the last SimCity vs SimCity 4 all over again.

Really, you have to give props to EA for not forcing their long-standing fans to upgrade. Other companies would shamelessly add in new features to coerce you into buying the new thing, not these guys. This above all else is why EA are such visionaries.
