A Petition that needs Signatures

Stop butchering NASA under the false pretense of cost. One Penny on a tax dollar for NASA will revive America\'s dreams.

We, the undersigned, request that NASA be made able to inspire this nation.

It is repulsive that the greatest era of our nation, and maybe even the planet, was struck down before its time. The dreams of a country are now dying. The US needs a kick. We need to inspire the populace, placing within them a fire of innovation and ambition. Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo did this. But with no manned space program, a whole generation has little to motivate them. And with no drive in students, it\'s no wonder education is failing. No one wants to learn.

But if we show our youth what\'s possible and what this nation can do, and electrify this generation, America will ride a wave of prosperity of a level never before seen. And we\'ve got a starting point:

A Penny for NASA.

You do realize those White House petitions are a joke? You could get every single human in the US to sign one and they won\'t give two shits if it doesn\'t already serve their agenda. It\'s a platitude, designed to add to the illusion that you have a say in government.

You can get an issue on a state ballot via petitions in the US, but there is no mechanism for the federal government as the only voting at the federal level is for the office of President. These White House petitions carry no legal weight at all and have been shows to be completely ignored or dismissed at a whim if they don\'t fit the White House agenda. The whole thing is a farce.

I am mostly going with what Skunky is saying, but the rest is simply that i do not agree with your petition whatsoever.

If we are to sincerely resurrect a space agency, it should be one, for the entire human race. This space exploration for national glory is beyond ridiculous.

But yeah, just giving my two cents here.

So, where should I put the petition to have it have the most political weight? Also, I don\'t think that all of humanity could come together until we stop having wars, and I\'m pretty sure that won\'t happen any time soon.

Not until we get attacked by an external force.

As the writer of the petition, I do agree that I would rather have a program for the entire world. But at the same time, to put off space flight until one global program is formed is naive. There is far too much resentment among the different societies of the world to have a global space agency any time soon, we don\'t live in a utopia where such a thing would be possible. To drop space flight until that point in the far future arrives is not politically sound as well as a detriment to scientific progress as a whole. It doesn\'t matter if everyone does it or one person does it, what\'s right is right and pushes mankind forward.

As you see, I made no mention of other space programs from other countries as competitors in the entire petition. When humanity expands its frontier, whoever does it is doing a service to the world.

Uniting ESA and NASA (which stands for quite a considerable amount of the technologically capable world) is not unrealistic, and i am currently annoyed at the fact that NASA is incredibly incapable of cooperating with other agencies, they\'d rather have rivals to beat, which leads back to nationalism.

Well, I am not interested in the National Glory part... even if I was American I wouldn\'t be. I just want to see another ambitious manned program like the 60s. Such a program would not only benefit the US, as Tyson says in the video, but also the rest of the world. The whole world saw the Moon Landing in \'69, and the whole world had that same galvanizing effect from it. I don\'t really care for what reason Congress increases NASA\'s budget, so long as they do.

However. I do agree that it would be far more preferable for all the spacefaring nations to pool resources and explore the cosmos together, but sadly I do not think that is likely to happen any time soon.

At the moment, NASA and ESA already do many, many things together. However, I doubt a blatant joining of the two would fly with many of the people here in the U.S., unfortunately. People here are nationalist already. Any candidate for any office who would suggest that NASA be joined with a foreign agency would be branded as unpatriotic, ESPECIALLY by the far right wingers. You couldn\'t do such a thing without a huge backlash from a large portion of the population. It may make sense if you look at it rationally, but less and less people are thinking rationally in the world today. America\'s being hit pretty hard by that.
