So... Spaceplane Plus is added to the game!

I'm doing all the rescue from kerbin orbit missions via SSTO spaceplanes now, they cost more to launch than a regular capsule-style rocket equivalent, but the overall cost of the mission after recovery is only a little bit of fuel

I do not have access to enough plane bits in my current save to make a decent one, but my rocket design works good enough to not warrant one. Once I have my station in orbit it will make the rescue missions infinitely easier, at least the idea for what I want to be on there.

I made several spaceplanes and atmospheric planes trying to convince myself that they're nice things... but in the end: rockets are my thing, I don't care much about aerospace. Still though - addition of a hangar bays is a huge thing, regardless of what one thinks about wings.

I am using universal storage, basically you can build bays onto rockets that actually look good. Not to mention if you get the science plugin it makes carrying science look much cleaner, and price is fairly balanced for the parts as well.

After seeing Scott Manley's introduction to SP+ I'm definitely looking forward its integration with stock. Hopefully those announced changes will also include better IVA for the inline cockpit but the rest looks great.

[victorianGentleman]Fine job, sirs! I commend you on an absolutely amazing decision. May I ask if the interior screen system of the original view will be preserved? Thank you, sirs.[/victorianGentleman]

Unfortunately, that would also require the integration of the RasterPropMonitor mod into the stock game, and I think SQUAD would have announced that if it was going to happen.

It seems unlikely that a stock cockpit would include RPM support. On the other hand, since Porkjet made the effort to make the internal view compatible with RPM in the first place, I would expect an RPM patch pretty much as soon as the 'stock' variant is released.

Ive heard this mod isn't compatible with the current game without some fixes. I want to try out this Mod before it comes stock to get a better understanding of what it offers.

The mod works fine out of the box, you might be thinking of B9 Aerospace. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

You might be thinking of B9? SP+ works great currently.

You'd think people would be happy, even if they don't like using planes, because this is the first 'advanced' addition to the game for so long i dare to think.

I think adding an entire economic framework is a more advancing addition than a couple of shiny parts. I guess they're sleek, but what does that mean in terms of game fidelity, really.

I know parts, parts and more parts are what kids want, but there are a boatload of optimizing, balancing, backend tweaking KSP needs. So many of us are pining for the day FAR/NEAR is made stock that it's become a bit of a joke. That would be a truly advancing/game-changing update.

All the same, I'm glad to see some fleshing out of part types, plane parts have been on the meager side, and they're good-looking parts.

New economic framework is hardly a priority. Current one is fine - it's just completely unbalanced to the game that is about space flight and exploration of the solar system. You can research an entire tree and swim in cash without ever making a full orbit around Kerbin (sub-orbitals are good enough for majority of tasks and running around Kerbin, occasional escape trajectory with full-on vertical launch can speed up the process). Rewards are too high, deadlines too long, penalties too low, and the idea of making a system where player cannot go bankrupt came out to be a complete failure (as some expected).

I know parts, parts and more parts are what kids want,

1. Stop being offensive

2. It's not just parts - it's an added mechanic of cargo bays, something KSP never got before. And let's not forget about the lifting bodies, something that - again - KSP never had, though it's not as much of a mechanic as simply changing config to the parts.

but there are a boatload of optimizing, balancing, backend tweaking KSP needs

And it's done in pretty much every single patch so far.

So many of us are pining for the day FAR/NEAR is made stock that it's become a bit of a joke. That would be a truly advancing/game-changing update.

Yes, agreed. However it seems like Multiplayer is a brand new priority for the devs, so aerodynamics are being pushed away one more time...

Considering they said parts have to be reworked before including to game, are you sure the cargo bay will be included?

I hope they keep the original cockpits around. I think letting them go would be detrimental - there'd be no 1-meters.

Porkjet's parts are only for the "mk2" line (the sort of SR-71 profiled parts).

The Mk1 (1.25m) parts have been overhauled by Hugo (allegedly), as well as the Mk3 (the weird offset 2.5m parts).

So all parts should still be there, just in an allegedly shinier form. (confirmedly shinier for mk2 parts)

I can imagine multiplayer as a business priority, but I cannot imagine how that works in any game that necessarily requires time compression. On topic, I too am hoping for a more realistic atmosphere to go with these awesome new spaceplane parts.
