like a 1 piece that can handle a lot of weight, its 1 prob I keep having is I want a make a crane, but I can`t seem to get a boom for it working!!!, tried ic, etc, I might have to built it,

but not sure about the animation part, tried to make 1, 3dmax 2010, [iC tutorial for making small animation] I can`t get it to work, so running out of option, I will either make it or throw away the project

if I make a boom animated, can i make it so it will start and stop like a cargo bay doors????, is there a cfg I can use to control it, like IC robotics???

this boom would be nice, not sure how much weight it could pick up?, maybe I will just make a tower crane and be done with it!

pic of boom that seem to work, can`t find it or if its released?

this is what I want to make I might just make a boom that extend to full size, would that work, like 1 click full size and 1 click stored.?

You will have to use Infernal Robotic parts in order to make a crane. I used the TPS (telescoping pistons) that are part of the Infernal Robotics pack for the boom arm. A Rotatron for the base and a TallHinge for the top portion. The claw (Mr Grabby) hasn't be released yet but you can still use KAS magnetic connector for that.

If you d be happy for a crane that wasnt telescopic i do have various versions of this in various styles, It'll be in my thread toward end of weekend, it uses an integral rottron to elevate boom , and i stick a rotatron underneath for slew, as to weight capacity , unitl your rover collapses under the weight is what it'll lift

yes I did use the infernal tel parts, but I find them to easy to break and to small, u mean this one right

mobilecrane2.jpg

I could use them, but would prob have to modified the cfg, as the tele. arm bend like a fishing rod, and is to small. I had a 280 ton vehicle[ 18 wheels it took to get it going lol ] with that similar crane set up and wanted to pick up 20 ton vehicle, the rotatron also broke? to much weight at the end? also in the first pic I showed, its a different boom, is that yours Surkut??

yes spankermonkey, that looks very nice, was thinking of the same way, but just might make 2 animated pieces boom. ty for the replies

I agree that KSP needs something crane-worthy that is KAS compatible. I made that crane in the pic using Lack Luster Labs, Infernal Robotics, and Kerbal Attachment System. The turntable was the weakest point on it, so I ended up just posting it for show. The rover base functioned beautifully, although it would drag the rear end while trying to climb hills, so I put hinges on the wheel mounts so I could raise the body, sort of like hydraulic lift, but Kerbal style...

When I built my crane to haul MKS modules (18-23 tonnes each) i had to use 2 booms in a U shaped structure. Unfortunately I don't have a craft file readily available, but it was sturdy enough to operate on Kerbin, but still stable enough to operate on Mun without flipping under load. Haven't tested on Minmus though.

Forget about animations - they don't allow to attach anything to moving part (since attached part won't move)

Infernal robotics mod is your friend.

I would start with Infernal Robotics model rework by ZodiusInfuser - stackable extending pistons and other nice parts is what you just might need:
