I finally unlocked the Cube Octag! What have YOU unlocked?

As the title says, I finally unlocked one of the parts that I have complained about the most : the Cubic Octagonal Strut. I think it should be unlocked MUCH earlier in the tech tree, but that's a discussion for another day.It made me wonder though: what part have you always rushed to unlock, no matter what?

The flat solar panel I have always felt should be a bit earlier or maybe the fuel line brought up a bit. Struts would be good too, or at the very least a new item called "space tape". It would not be as strong as struts but it could keep things from flopping around.

Cubic octagonal is an amazingly high tech part, it's tiny, weighs nothing, but can hold huge part and take monstrous amounts of stress. Whatever it's made must be seriously advanced.

What I've last unlocked on my hard mode save was the first electrics node, with the single solar panels, time for a long range mission!

I always go along the bottom of the tree and get the science parts first, then I go for the struts and the fuel lines! Once you have as many of the science parts unlocked as possible, you can unlock the whole tech tree in 1 Minmus and 1 Mun mission.

Some people don't like how late the fuel lines and struts unlock. I love it, it gives you the feel of the good old days of KSP when we didn't have no god darn struts! And asparagus staging wasnt even thought of!

It was funny because this playthrough I went through a rather long period of indecision as to the merits of Ion vs Nuclear. I then went with the accelerometer.

Science equipment is always the best thing to go for because it gives more science to unlock more stuff. Other than that though, I go for Nuclear propulsion because it can get me anywhere, and Ion Propulsion because it can get my kerbals back from anywhere. Of course, before I get them I have to go for strut connectors and fuel lines because they can get anything into orbit, but they occur very early anyway.

I always rush to unlock solar panels, because unmanned interplanetary missions are impossible without them. I know I can just use a command pod, but stranding Kerbals doesn't make me any happier.

Well you can if you want to do a lot of prep work for your probe once it is in enroute into deep space, in fact it is what NASA and the like do with their probes as well. Turn the probe, and batteries, off until you need to do some sort of burn or correction. It would be a bit of work to setup but, but if done right you could have probes going everywhere while you are concentrating on Mun and Minmus stuff with low tech items in the mean time.

LOL. The choices Squad forces us to make :)

The stock tech-tree is insane so I almost never play science or career mode. When I do the most desired part is a solar panel, the most 'wrong' a ladder.

Yes I agree. I would kill many Kerbals for a tech tree that made sense but isn't BTSM.
