i have a fuel ship but yea it can

I can make you something that will carry as many Kerbals as you want and do unrefuelled return trips to Minmus and back with a VTOL landing for some ice skating on the flats. Give me half an hour.

That do?

would be great

Stock it is, then.

Shame, though: this is what I'd whipped up. Just needs final detailing to be done.

24 Kerbal capacity (12 in economy class; convert to a cargo bay for an express courier), better than 170kN of VTOL thrust for the Mun, able to beat Mach 5 on Kerbin.

How far up the tech tree are you?

im playing sandbox mode, that is one hell of a people carrier you built there. im pretty sure if i installed sp+ this wouldnt be so much of a headache but theres something about playing with limited parts (i.e. without a mod making it easy) ive always found appealing in my games, that said ill never understand why cargo bays arent a stock part, i like your use of the bucket seat.

this is currently what some of my successful designs look like.

Well, that solves my next question about funds. Stock prototype nearly done, looking to be about √160,000. One pilot, sixteen passengers. In current configuration, powered by one turbojet and eight RAPIERs.

I'm having to do serious violence to my instincts to make something suited for stock aerodynamics, though. :D

i feel your pain, i was getting close with my 5 seater took it up to 150k needed more fuel and i wasn't happy with its pitch climb, moved some of the weight around tried a longer wing configuration then i started getting wing flap at that point i was just like .... it, ill just download a ship this too much work for an over glorified school bus.

Here's my submission for you.

It's an all stock cargo SSTO that comes with a crew rover for 8 kerbals, or a passenger module for 21 kerbals.

Fuel levels are preset for 75km orbit for each payload, if you want it to go to 150km, you should add slightly more fuel to the small tanks.

You can also easily swap out the crew modules for other things you want to launch, that are under 30 tons.

Best way to fly:

nose up at 5 degrees until clear of runway;

nose up at 30 degrees until 22km altitude;

reduce nose up to 15 degrees to gain speed while maintaining a ~10-15m/s vertical speed;

when you hit 25km, nose up to 45-60 degrees and wait for the rockets to activate automatically;

when above 35km, accelerate at prograde until apoapsis is desired.

Okay: this is still a work in progress. It flies and would get to orbit if you were patient enough, but it needs further tweaking before it's a properly good plane. But attempting to flight test this thing has reminded me of how much I hate flying in stock aero, and I'm getting a bit over it.

But you still might find it a useful place to start from. It's nearly there; it just needs tweaking.

Could you post the craft files? Then we could give your planes a try and make suggestions how to improve them. So far they look pretty capable.

here it is

kerbavor

You can use my craft - 8 passengers + pilot, 2200 m/s of dV on orbit (enough for Minmus round-trip)

can you link the craft file

I thought that I'd stripped it back down to stock, but obviously I missed something. What exactly was the error message? Mumech or something else?

See http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/90747-Kerbodyne-SSTO-Division-Omnibus-Thread?p=1370535&viewfull=1#post1370535 for the SP+ one, BTW.

EDIT: I've had a look, and I can't see any obvious non-stock parts on it. I definitely didn't leave the Mechjeb flight data thingie on, which is normally what has happened when this comes up. I'd be interested to see the error message; although the plane is flawed in it's current state, probably all it needs is to have some deltas and wing boards slapped on top and bottom of the engines so it works as a lifting body.

I've replaced the file at the download link just in case it was a bad upload.

Only 5 Kerbals? No offence but since when is 5 Kerbals a large crew transfer.

This extended version of my regular U-39 'Aurora' carries 113.
