Like four days ago universe sandbox 2 was released in alpha for $25 dollars, it has working climate for planets, improved impacts, and much more.

I want my terraformable planets!

This was always a feature, you can have bouncy or impact collisions.

They are still working on galaxies, Giant Army admits those need a lot of love. The final product should include dark matter, however. Something the first edition did not have.

You are right, we have little understanding of the nature of it. That does not mean, however, that you cannot add that factor to simulations so that they respond like in real life. Whatever is it, we understand what it does well enough to do that. That might or might not turn out to be wrong later, but jives with what we know now.

Of course, the term explaining away might be a little simplistic, there are a lot of people looking at it and various observations have been made that seem to point in the suggested direction. By calling it explaining away you are implying it is some rogue hypothesis without any thought or merit.

Dark matter was proposed to explain the way galaxies rotate. If the game reproduces that motion, the game makers don't have to pin down the true nature of dark matter for the simulation to run realistically.
