Fixing the Addon Releases and Projects Showcase thread

I've been an avid user of KSP mods for over a year now and I think that there is a problem with how this thread is used. I think this thread should be used by the mod developers to announce when they have released a mod, or updated it. And that is all it should be used for. What it shouldn't be is the place where people ask questions or look for support - shouldn't that be done in the Addon on Requests and support forum?

The reason I bring this up is that I play with 40-50 mods typically, and in an ideal world, I would go into the forum every couple of days and do a quick check of this thread and the Addon development thread to see if there have been updates to the mods I'm using. But right now what happens is I see an a new entry in the thread for modX, I then go into it and have to parse through the last posting, and generally several more (or even several pages) to discover that the recent postings are all complaints, questions or "I love this mod" messages, and that there has been no actual update of the mod itself. And yes, many mod developers do keep update logs on their OP, but not all do, or do it really clearly.

Don't get me wrong, much of the time I enjoy and participate in these discussions in the existing thread. I would just like to see them elsewhere, or perhaps just see an actual Addon releases / updates announcements dedicated to that sole purpose. I'm thinking that doing this would make checking your mods quicker and more convenient, and make it a lot easier, especially for people who are newer to the modding scene.

What do you think?

Wow, a quick response. I was actually making an edit to my OP to add something to that effect when you posted. But I think you made my point when you said "most mods have their version numbers and release dates in the thread title" - not everyone does. And even if they did, I still think that there should be value in having such a group to save people time and effort.

Also, many of us use github; you can subscribe to our repos and get notification on releases.

You learn something new every day!

I have a github account, and have even sent a pull-request that was merged after forking MKS/OKS, but I still did not know that this was possible. I will be utilizing this in the future to help me keep my mods up to date! (Currently I use bookmarks in chrome, which leads to me opening about 50 tabs/threads at once and exiting them one by one while checking if the title/version number/ top part of the post has changed.)

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
