Kerbal Space Program Ice Bucket Challenge!!!

Recommended Posts

hello everyone

today as of posting, i managed to successfully pull off a ice bucket style challenge in kerbol space program.

and it was actually pretty difficult and took a few days of frustration, so i wondered what all kinds of creativity would

this spark with other people. so i challenge you guys, to come up with creative ways to kill kerbals. this was inspired by

the ALS ice bucket challenge

this is a freestyle challenge so no scoring system, just creativity. videos will be judged and given a 1 out of 10 performance rating based on creativity.

most interesting videos will be posted here with the top 5 challenges earning the bragging rights. they will be judged on the bases of most interesting

scenarios and style.

example: i managed to perform my video at the kerbol space center with a rocket powered bucket launched of the the launch pad.

and i targeted a kerbol on top of the VAB. the bucket of which. i felt like, was a very creative addition.

scoring: scoring has been changed a bit. i will now accept other peoples score suggestions up to 4 + mine, and i will average them for the final score. i felt it might be unfair to just have one judge, even if this challenge is just for fun.

basic judging rules: you can not give a perfect 10 for every one that you like. keep scores realistic. a 6 is actual not a terrible score but 7 and up are where anyone who did well would like to be, and 9 and 10 are reserved for only the most extravagant. scoring is to be based on creativity in things like: method of deployment, locations, accuracy of most successful shot, and the effort it looks like it took to make it happen. please not that trolls will be ignored. no 0s will be accepted nor will scores below 3 be accepted unless the entry was a troll response to begin with.

example score: uninteresting location due to ease of access. actual bucket with large amount of objects and lots of explosions with a good camera angle.

= moderate score of 7.0/10

i would have have also scored my self higher but i had issues at the polar ice caps, and i didn't feel like going all the way to another planet because this already

took 3 days to come up with a good shot.

but for those of you that are willing to go the extra mile. you could earn your self a top 5 location by going out to interesting locations like space or other planets/moons/astroids

and then again bonus points for style and camera angles, particularly with creative solutions to dropping vast amounts of things on kerbals.

pictures will also be accepted but will be kept in a second category.

link to my own entry

entries:

Here's Bill and Bob on Minmus Ice Flats in a Claw Hand Battle Mech creeping up on Jeb and dumping what could be ice on the little git.

score: 8.0/10 for the mech that actually dumps a bucket on a kerbal, although no explosions. the mech was awesome enough. good one

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums so I figured I would go ahead and do one of these challenges. For this one I threw together a plane that is capable of very high speeds and used a bomb bay as the bucket. Then I flew Jeb up to the northern ice cap for the challenge. I used monoprop tanks as the "ice".

Here are the pics... http://imgur.com/a/hOjqC

Heres the video...

Hope you like it!

score 7.8/10 very interesting set up. i like the use of the jet as a bomber and it was done at a cliff side at the caps. very nice entry

important note: this not an argument about ALS. please stop mentioning your beliefs/disbelief's regarding ALS charity drives.

Er... think you are missing the point of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge... The idea of pouring a bucket of ice-cold water over your head is meant to simulate the suffering of someone with ALS, so you get an idea of what they go through on a regular basis...

There is also a bit of controversy surrounding the ALS charity as well, with them supposedly testing on large amounts of animals...

Sorry, but this is one I won't be taking part in, for the reasons listed above and more, but some others might be interested... I can picture Whackjob launching a MEGA bucket at a kerbal on the Mun... :)

except that the ALS Ice Bucket challenge isn't the point of this challenge. It's the How cool of a place can you fling a bucket of decouplers at kerbals challenge.

Thanks for your consideration Cmdr. Arn1e. But note that i understand what the bucket of ice is meant to repersent, and I have performed this in real life. However im not uploading the video because im running a youtube channel that only plays silent commentary. So a video of me doesnt quite fit in with my channel's style. Im not trying to get off that easy by just doing it in a game. I just had a fun idea that i figured would spark some interesting gameplay footage

If that is the case, I suggest he rename it... (click 'go advanced' in the edit bit)

again in advanced edit, there is a big delete option up the top...

Again, none of what I said should be taken with any malice, as none is intended... I hope the challenge goes well, just I won't be taking part, and maybe a link to your video of your RL ALS IBC would be cool in the other thread :) (I wouldn't mind seeing any of the devs get challenged to an IBC, either )

Just an off-topic FYI: the ice bucket is just a (very very successful) gimmick, has nothing to do with ALS symptoms. It's hard to simulate systematic, slow paralysis of limbs -- loss of ability to move then swallow and eventually breathe, the toll this takes on a person, their family and caregivers, but a bucket of ice water on the head isn't even close. The bucket was the brainchild of a former college basketball player; you know, like the buckets players pour over the coach after a victory.

by the way. i want to personally apologize for earlier. this is my first time trying to make a public appearance in this community, and i didnt expect this post to blow up like it did so fast with mixed responses. i was also at work on and extremely busy and stressful day, and i sort of freaked out. especially after i found out about the double post accident. but im clearing everything now and carrying on with the challenge:)

That entire site is hogwash. There is no cure for ALS, "natural" or otherwise. My mother-in-law, an accomplished concert pianist, spent the last three years losing her ability to play piano, then feed herself, then walk, then swallow, then speak, then breathe before she died last March at age 62. She tried so-called 'natural' remedies to zero effect. The disease is inexorable and cannot be stopped. There's a really good reason why ALSA isn't giving money to 'natural' cures. Regarding the 27% spent on research: ALS imposes a very substantial burden on patients and caregivers. In the final stages, it requires 24-hour per day care, a bunch of expensive equipment: motorized chairs (and a vehicle that can transport them), eye-tracking software, lifts and hoists, hospital bed, machines to help the patient cough, machines to attempt to maintain some muscle tone, breathing assists, special equipment for the bathroom, etc etc. Needless to say, both the nursing care and the equipment are costs that most patients cannot afford (Medicare does fast-track ALS patients so can cover some of these costs). The ALSA helps offset these costs for patients and their families, and that's what they've spent most of their donations on in the past. It's a great organization, high ratings from Charity Navigator.

Did you seriously expect to name a challenge "The Ice Bucket Challenge" and not see discussion of ALS? You ride the zeitgeist; you get the horns.

I'll stop cluttering up your thread though. Just be aware that for some of us, this is quite personal.
