Help me Texture this Model

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a series of parts. I'm happy with the way the geometry of the part has turned out, so I started texturing the first part. Thus far, I've been working on it for three days and pulling my hair out. I've tried about half a dozen different textures on this model and haven't been satisfied with any of them.

I'm not looking for someone to texture it for me, what I'm really looking for is suggests. Not of a technical manner, but more aesthetic advice. Well, enough how-do-you-do, here's the model.

Try looking for KOSMOS parts, there is something like this which you can refer to but I think the truss could be the stock truss color (gray). It looks really great. You should decide on what material to use and consider its size (if you choose a huge foil texture, make sure the foils are smaller looking). The hatches being textured stock-alike is also quite nice.

That's a great looking part. I'm just getting started as well and because I'm not great at texturing, I've just been using solid colors, shades of grey, on my models. Once it's working and you see it with other parts in game, maybe you can get an idea of what details to add, rather than looking at it alone.

You can improve it even more. Have a look at this thread. A while ago I wrote a quick and dirty guide on making semi-professional materials for KSP. It's distributed throughout the thread and clearly labeled with Images.

Sorry for not replying earlier (actually, I thought I had, but I guess not). Thanks for the tutorial. It is rather invaluable and a great write up. Masterful work I must say and highly appreciated by us noob modders I'm sure :)

are those strictly emissives or do you have lights embedded? I would go with strictly emissive as there is a maximum # of light sources KSP can display simultaneously. it is a fair amount, but most people have it set much lower.

Aside from that, great progress!

They *were* going to be strictly emissives. But I've decided to ditch that particular concept. There are loads and loads of radially attachable lights already and I found the design of those to be mediocre. So unless I come up with a better design (your post on the other thread already gave me an idea), these crew passages will remain unlit. :)

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
