Price to revert to VAB.

Recommended Posts

I propose there be a price to revert the craft to the VAB/SPH.

this would be a method of meaning that the revert option need not be a get out of jail free card.

crashed on the mun? you're gonna have to pay If you want to restart the mission- there's no such thing as free lunch.

even when It's from the pad to check a part's orientation, you still have to pay those kerbals who spent all that time lugging it out there just to deploy an antenna, then all the way back to the VAB.

what do you think?

Hmm, the revert feature is essentially a time control, it takes you back in time to the launch or the editor, it's not something you could pay for any more than the timewarp feature.

And if you can get all the way to a Mun landing without loading or leaving and returning to your game, you probably don't need this anyway.

And if you can't, then there's no revert, they don't carry over when you save and load :)

I'm against the idea of charging for reverts and quickloads, about half of mine are because the game bugged out or other wise broke. It hardly seems fair to penalize the player for that.

This.

It's why I have 'revert to editor', 'revert to launch' and 'quicksave/load' enabled, as well as Hyperedit installed (for instance, I have a long standing issue that returning to orbiting probes destroys them. Oh well, Hyperedit up a replacement). The game has far too many bugsfor me to feel comfortable turning those off. If I turned them off and did a Minmus return mission and, as has happened before, Kerbin didn't load (you've seen the bug before, the surface stays low res, then when you get low enough, the black hole opens up and you die), then why should I be penalised for reverting? I either lose rep and money by continuing, or I lose money and science by reverting - simply because Unity decided to break. Through no fault of my own, I have to lose out on money and progress.

I don't get why people keep suggesting things like this - if I kill kerbals because of bad piloting, that's my fault and I accept it. If I kill kerbals because the game bugs out, I shouldn't be penalised for that. All it takes is self control and willpower to not take the easy way out all the time and actually man up to your mistakes.

all of your points are valid.

perhaps my Idea wasn't the best.

Someone a while back posted an idea like this. I suggested a separate button in the VAB/SPH (a yellow rocket called "test") that allows you to test your vehicle. This is basically a simulation mode, so there is no cost to build or for failure, but you cannot earn any science or complete contracts (though it might show you that you completed it). When you click test, it would load a window asking you what planet/orbit etc.... you want to test your craft (so you can instantly warp to a planet to test it, instead of having to set up the maneuvers etc.... or edit save files or something).

This idea would be useful for both career mode, as well as for players wanting to mess around and have fun...
