Improved parachutes

Recommended Posts

Im new to the Forums and I haven't really taken the time to go through all 200+ pages of development suggestions so I'm not sure if this has been posted before but here goes.

I would like to have parachutes with an attachment point on top of them, on the surface this seems ridiculous, how would they deploy with something on top of them? but here me out. The reason I would like to see this is really simple, it would allow for parachutes and the LES (launch escape system) to be used in concert. One could put the LES on top of the parachute (with a decoupler in-between if the LES isn't upgraded to have one that can be stageable/mapped to an action group). The parachute part would be unable to deploy (or maybe would get destroyed) if it was activated with something attached to its top attachment point.

TL;DR parachutes should have a top attachment point to allow them to be used with the LES but they wouldn't work as a parachute if the part attached to the top wasn't removed.

Please feel free to improve/discuss this idea!

thanks:D

Stack chutes should not allow it either. It's not empty space in there.

yeah, not if the chute is actually packed inline, but two or three chutes could be packed in a neat doughnut around the outside but hang symmetrically. something where the chute or chutes are packed to the side but the cords are connected in such a way that the pod hangs balanced beneath the canopy.

Have you... seen the RealChute inline chutes?? And then again that doesn't work, a parachute is not just 2D fabric and strings, they have a considerable amount of volume, and then there's internal asing, explosive bolts, mortars, etc. You don'T have leftover place after. If you want to go through, use radials.
