Mk3 cargo bay

Recommended Posts

It's not about personal preferences. The point I am trying to make is that this is a chance to bring spaceplanes and shuttles to attention and use. I am not saying that it's impossible or stupid to do things with 1.25 m parts or interplanetary shuttles but it seriously limits the potential if a big number of parts are ruled out by a lack of large cargo bays.

I have done enough missions with planes and I am aware of the potential that 1.25 m bays will offer. I am rly excited about the upcoming parts and the oportunities it will bring. But it seems to be a stop halfway.

You might disagree but I was hoping the update would finally bring spaceplanes and shuttles to the central parts of the game. You can do this already but its more complicated than it needs to be. It could be a lot easyer and practical. I don't want to provoke you and I am not being ironical, but can you give me a reason why it shouldn't be?

It's just the same dead end niche profile that space planes are stuck in.

Space Planes have been my main craft for deploying RemoteTech satellites, life support / general resupply to my space stations, and crew transport. Probably my most used craft in Kerbal and far from a dead end.

Ditto. The only time I fly rockets these days is when I need to construct an orbital fuel depot in a hurry.

Because, in reality, spaceplanes are much harder to build. "Moar boosters" doesn't work so well on things with wings. And, in-game, because spaceplanes provide such a huge financial advantage. They'd be even more overpowered if they were easier. Meta-game, it also appears that a lot of players run through KSP with rocketry to start with, then return and do it all again with planes. This enhances game longevity.

Spaceplane design is (slightly) advanced Kerbalage, but that ain't necessarily a bad thing.

All that said, however: yes, we want bigger cargo bays. But the ones we've got are a long way from useless.

Prophet_01, I'm a little confused. When I first read your post above it seemed like you didn't want more cargo bays and now you seem to arguing the opposite. You said you completely disagreed with what I said, but what I said was I wanted both Mk3 and Mk1 sized cargo bays.
