[0.14-0.16] Kessler: asynchronous, shared-world multiplayer (+ save editor)

Recommended Posts

Update released!

You can get it at the usual place. This version is protocol incompatible with previous versions.

Changes:

  • Client now creates a log file, [fixed]kessler/client_log.txt[/fixed]. This means that you can report errors by pasting from the log file (or putting the whole thing on pastebin) rather than taking screenshots.
  • Client now handles part files that it can\'t load in a sensible manner
  • Save files are now compressed between client and server, resulting in significant bandwidth savings
  • NaN filtering is no longer on by default
  • Assorted minor bugfixes

Next up is hopefully mission updating, but we\'ll see.

dvc@dvc:~/KSP$ ./kessler_server.sh
Loading configuration from kessler/client_config.txt
Looking for kessler/merged.sfs:
failed (kessler/merged.sfs (No such file or directory))
Looking for saves/default/persistent.sfs:
failed (saves/default/persistent.sfs (No such file or directory))
Error: couldn\'t find any games to load. Exiting.

but those files exist... And its not permissions issue... ;]

There is a bug where the server was loading the client\'s configuration in some circumstances (which you can actually see in that log) which I just uploaded a fix for. So try that first so that it gets the right [tt]load=[/tt] option.

If it\'s still happening after that I will take another look.

I\'m trying to connect to a friend\'s server on my network, but the connection keeps on timing out. What IP would I connect to, public or LAN?

Depends on what you mean by 'on your network'.

If you\'re both, say, in the same building, connected on a LAN, and both behind the same firewall, use the LAN IP.

Make sure there\'s no firewall settings or the like interfering, and that the host and port are correct in the config file.

Would it be possible to add an option to allow everyone to fly every craft and have it saved?

Say A, B and C are doing a joint Mun project, and A wants B to fly their space thingy to the mun from where he left off.

Im preety sure you can fly somebodys craft... but cant tell you how it works in practice.

come to my serv from signature and try to fly things which are already there ;]

hmm.. Try to build a craft use stock parts for compatibility (btw mechjeb is 'stock' for me ;) leave it heading Mun and let me know..

..then ill try to land it. If I make it, and dont waste all the fuel I\'ll let you know and you will be able to bring it back home.

So thats the theory..

(make sure you update your save before starting and after leaving the game)

This is harder than it sounds and is in fact my current project. When it\'s actually working there\'ll be a big announcement, don\'t worry. :)

Thanks to LiquidCat and SynMonger, some problems with the launcher not being able to find Java - particularly on Windows XP - have hopefully been fixed. If you\'re having problems with it saying it can\'t find Java but you know Java is installed, try this download.

This whole batch file launcher madness is such a nightmare on windows that I\'m looking into replacing it with something better and, hopefully, more reliable.
