Is the buildings damages cumulative?

It seems to be mass related. It's not even speed related, someone blew up the runway just by launch a large B9 plane and waiting for physics to kick in. That thing couldn't have been more than 1 or 2 m/s falling on the runway.

I've heard rumors that building damage is cumulative, and also that they slowly heal over time. I don't know if that's true, but if so, then in theory if you don't crash into buildings very often or very hard, you might never knock them down.

HOWEVER, what I do know is that the damage needed to kill any particular building is highly variable. I made a tank that shoots NASA SRBs as missiles and it's got 12 shots. Sometimes it will destroy a building with a single shot, sometimes it needs many shots. So really, all bets are off. No telling what might kill a building on any given day.

Yup, all buildings have different crash tolerances. The VAB is pretty strong, the flag pole.. not so much.

I'm not sure about that Kofeyh was streaming earlier, and physics loading slammed his ship into the launch pad at 175 m/s (according to the debug screen) so weird things can happen during physics loading. It is probably something they should address eventually, especially if people have problems launching things because physics loading is enough to blow things up...

i.e if I crash a small plane on the same building several time, will it collapse at any time even if I go back to the space hangar(without reverting of course!)?

A bunch of streamers on twitch (Including MaxMaps, IIRC) were stating that the damage to buildings are cumulative, but I'm not sure if each strike has to overcome a certain threshold to do damage to start with.

It's also possible to repair a building before it's destroyed. Not sure which is more economical.

That 175 m/s always seems to show up in the flight log, even if you haven't actually undergone any acceleration. That's been around for a lot longer than it should have been.

Follow up question - can you destroy buildings outside of career mode (The update notes make me think no, but I am hoping yes)

Same question here. I really tried to destroy the VAB in sandbox (to see the explosions [;)]) but even a head on crash with a Ravenspear at about Mach 1 died any visible or functional damage.

I real game I never had any problems with a crash into any building. So I hope that I will never see it in career [:)]

Isn't 175m/s the orbital velocity you have when sitting still on the ground?

Remember that while your surface velocity is 0 before launch, you still have orbital velocity ( just manually switch over the spedometer and you'll see)

yes, you can destroy buildings in other game modes, and yes, damage is cumulative, and yes each building has a different tolerance. (one BACC SRB to the VAB will bring it down, whereas the same srb to the astronaught complex will not)

So, if I drop enough "bomb"(*) on the VAB, it will collapse at some point?

(*) I downloaded the bomb mod. They are just masses shaped like bomb so there isn't additional explosion effect.

Yep, though if you drop something big enough it will collapse in one go.
