The Realism Overhaul mod and the projects it aggregates are absolutely awesome, and it's obvious the devs are putting in some invaluable time and work. That said, it's as the name suggests, a complete overhaul of the game. I've been wondering if anyone would be interested in a middle ground.

Stuff like making the engines behave more realistically, with limited throttle and a finite number of re-ignites, steady fuel flow and increasing thrust under lower atmospheric pressure... Offset centers of mass in pods and other parts where it's warranted... An optional rescaling of the Kerbol system to make Kerbin Earth-sized, and Kerbals human-sized... etc.

Basically, the sort of part and world tweaks that would enhance the simulation aspect of the game without turning it into a completely different game altogether, breaking carreer mode, etc.

They already have that. Just install Real Solar System and the 10x scaled Kerbol system RSS mod. It scales the Kerbol system up to RSS sizes. From there, you'd have to tweak part configs (or more realistically, edit some RSS MM configs) to make the difficulty how you'd like it to be. All those RO mods you mention, do things like tweak the ISP to real levels, set limits on re-ignites, and almost all of the rest of the things you mention...though I'm not positive on the mass and fuel flow....

Probably the easiest way to do this is to get RSS + 6.4x Kerbin, Real Fuels, DRE, FAR, and any other realism mods you want, but not the RO resize scripts, and try it out. Costs might be off but you can adjust rewards in your save. 6.4x Kerbin with Real Fuels plays very much like stock on a much better scale; while the payload fraction is lower than Stock's, it's still more than RSS.

RSS and RO are great works, but they shouldn't ever become default KSP. A option (difficulty sliders!) or module in KSP? Sure, but new players have plenty of difficulty with stock game and RSS/RO would just drive people away if they aren't ready for it.

There is no need to fear, good citizen! No one in this thread has suggested anything of the kind and I'm certain Squad would never take such a bold step without consulting the opinions of its multitude of users.

Thanks! :) I haven't found that before you mentioned it. That looks a lot like what I was thinking of. Maybe I'll look into tweaking stuff, and releasing something derivative with the creators' consent if it works out well.

Anyway, I feel that some kind of add-ons registry would help us a lot. The forum search feature doesn't give itself to finding mods. At all.

KerbalStuff could be that, but there's a 60% chance that a specific mod isn't there. (And a 75% chance that it's not on Curse, which I guess has usability problems and historical grudges at its roots.)
