What causes the Hell Kraken? IT ATE MY JEB!

Recommended Posts

Basically, it's a devide by 0 error - it's to do with some of the fancy programming they've done to shoehorn the physics into Unity, and unfortunately is more of a Unity error than a KSP one!

Until they start using a newer version of Unity (and they haven't switched yet for the same reason they haven't migrated the forums to the newer vesion ov Vbulletin; some new features, but old ones missing, which could cause more problems than it fixes...) we are stuck with it... did your ship by any chance have a Claw on it? That's known Kraken bait at the mo!

Yeah, this happened too in my game, I EVA'd jeb out of a stationary capsule on the launch pad, he fell out, hit the ground, then, BAM. Hell kraken shows up, screen goes black, the whole show. I need to restart the game, in the tracking station the capsule on the launch pad and jeb are gone, and he's missing in action.

Seems like a common-ish error, though certainly not routine.

I'll probably bring him back by messing with the persistent file, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Best I can figure jeb clipped through the ground or something, and the game freaked out. I haven't seen it happen in space yet.

I don't recall being on Starwhip's ship, but I do love me some Kraken!

Kerbals have all sorts of subtle breaks at the moment. They can also ragdoll in command seats leaving them unable to get out, and turn into debris when crashing a rover.

I haven't had this one too much myself but with the reports I've seen, it seems more common that they land on their helmets when this happens. Although a helmet landing certainly isn't required.

Cheers,

-Kraken bait

Oi, I didn't say you could come on my ship! All it was supposed to be was a landing-leg roller!

Ah, he's... was fine. I fixed his .cfg file. Then accidentally killed him and Bill in a spaceplane crash. :(

I hope that now KSP goes scope complete for 1.0, the developers will spend some time stabilizing. ;)

That's the plan. With scope completion development shifts from adding new features to fixing/improving the ones already in the game.
