DR + RSS + FAR = Fireball?

Can anyone offer some tips? I read where you can change the DR settings to make it "easy", but that seems like cheating. Here is my specific questions: is it at all possible to make a non-powered landing from orbital speeds in a Mk1 pod on Kerbal without exploding? (Actually using the 6.4x configs, NEAR and DR)

You probably forgot to install the alternate config for deadly reentry, check out in the thread. It's very possible even on 10x scale, provided you have installed the cfgs of course.

Thanks! But that wasn't it, actually. I figured it out. The Mk1 Pod's pods's built-in heatshield was the problem. I guess the configs don't update the pods. Adding a regular heat shield worked. The pod by itself is popcorn.
