What is better Android or Windows Phone?

In December, my contract ends, now I have a phone Sony Xperia J, I'm not happy with it.

It's slow and often not responding to my inputs.

I wonder if you do not buy a phone with Windows Phone system, I mean, of course, a cheap phone, because I'm not rich.

I've heard that cheap phones with windows phone work better than android phones.

No idea. I went from apple back to android and I'm quite happy.

I would recommend the Moto G (2013 version). Its the cheapes Android wiht a 720p Display and a fast enough CPU, it also has a large community (for modding&custom roms ettc.) and Android 5 is confirmend for it.

I'd think there'd be a good number of Android fans here. (I'm an Android guy myself - Samsung Galaxy SIII)

Android is a really great platform for phones, tablets and other "smart devices." (Smart device is marketing lingo for a device with basic computing functionality. It comes from the term "Smart Terminal.")

My favorite Android products are the Nexus lines because they are designed to be able to be unlocked easily, and updates are released for far longer.

Windows Phone is a dead platform. You might as well buy one of those "phones for elderly".

Dead? The Windows Store is continuously growing. The 1520 was a real competitor in the phablet market.

Anyway, it comes down to what your needs: If you want good, reliable hardware and amazing photo quality, get a Windows Phone.

If you want better and more software, then get an Andriod.

Android and iOS have the widest app support. I can be confident that whatever I want to do on Android, there's an app for that. Less confident on iOS because Apple tries to stop me running apps they don't approve of. But on Windows, Blackberry, or other minor OSes I really wouldn't have that confidence - any time I want to do something that's a bit obscure, specialist, or technical it's up in the air whether the right app will be available.

That. Between custom roms, being able to install and chroot into a variety of Linux distros, and rooted specialty apps, you can do a lot with Android.

Same is true for Android, especially if you use Chrome as a browser on the PC.

Or Chrome as a browser on any OS.

I plan on getting the 2014 G when my AT&T contract goes up in March next year. For their prices, either G is great, but I need the 2014 model because it has a MicroSD slot. I listen to a ton of music, so being able to just swap SD cards versus having to sync with a PC is a great feature (doesn't matter how, syncing GB's worth of music all the time sucks). I don't like those microUSB thumb drives...I'm just afraid I'll break my USB port with it connected to my phone in my pocket while I'm working around the house or at actual work.

I'd love to have a Moto Nexus 6, but it costs $650-$700 USD. I just can't justify getting a phone that costs the same as a mid-tier gaming PC or half the price of a used car or work truck. The $180 brand new price tag of the G is just fine for my cheap and broke ass.

Because the G's are World Phones released with a really cheap price, they have tons of custom roms and support communities. For me, that's their best feature above all else. It almost guarantees these phones will get Android OS updates for years to come, even if Motorola doesn't provide them.

Best bet is to get hands-on... go into a shop and ask to be shown the handsets in your price range, and choose the one that is best for you :)

This. Unless you actually try out the phone it's hard to get a good idea of how it feels to you, which makes the decision harder.

As an iOS user, I can't really recommend either, but if given the choice I might actually go for the Windows phone despite Android's larger app base and customizability. I don't need hundreds of apps and crazy customization options, a phone that does what it says on the package is good enough for me.

I haven't used either Android or Windows phones for any useful amount of time, mind you, this is just my impression.

I'm biased towards Android, but I didn't like the iOS way of doing basic system tasks, changing settings, and being locked into iTunes sucked (last iPhone owned was a 3GS; last iPhone used was a 4GS). I've only ever used Windows Phones display models in-store, but the OS seemed OK and the newer Lumia's take really good pictures.

The Windows Phones' lack of "killer" apps is their downside. The Android downside is you really have to do your homework before you buy one else you might screw yourself (there are A LOT of crappy Android phones...can't go wrong with a 2013+ Motorola, any model really). The iPhone downside is their price and being more restricted in features and functionality than all the others.

You mean an iphone? :D

Seriously though, I've been using Windows Phones since around 2011 and never looked back. And I love the Nokia Lumias. I first got an 800, and then my wife wanted one so I got her a 900, and now I have a 920.

People who say that the WP apps are lacking have never used it. Either that, or they're the kind of people who like the stupid toy apps that people make like light saber sounds and stuff. I'm not into those stupid apps. I also found that the Android app market is flooded with crappy apps. I have everything I need including Facebook (Which is integrated into the phone) Twitter VEVO etc. I even have a NEST app for my house's smart thermostat...

And another thing I really love is that it comes with Office. And since I get a lot of work e-mails on my phone, I can open Excel spreadsheets, Word documents and Powerpoint presentations. You can also create/edit them, and store them on OneDrive which is a cloud drive that you can access from you phone, your PC, or any computer when you log into your Hotmail/Live account.

I also pay the $9 a month for XBox music which lets me download as much music as I want on my phone, XBox and PC. And if you get a Nokia phone, you get free Nokia Maps and GPS turn-by-turn directions and it works really well. You still get a Maps app with ANY Windows Phone, but the Nokia Maps is better because you can download the maps to your phone, and the maps just seems better with better search results too. Not 100% sure if you can download the maps to your phone with just stock maps app...

A few months ago I got an update which includes Cortana. Cortana is the better windows version of Siri, if Siri were a lot smarter. I'm really amazed at what you can say and do with it, like "Remind me when I get home to check my e-mails" or "Remind me next time I talk to Jim to ask about the meeting.", or anything including setting calendar appointments, doing searches etc etc. It's also really funny to ask her to do impressions or tell a joke.

Anyways, I'll never go back to Android, and I never liked iPhoney (No offence to anyone that owns one, I just don't like anything about them), and it seems like every time a friend asks about my phone and they play with it for a little bit, they end up buying one.
