Going to EVA always releases the handle, how to fix?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Even when im in space, going to EVA my Kerbal starts flying, so I have to come back to the ship and enter.

Interesting part is, that the moment I exit to EVA, Im being shown "press space to release", but then I'm automatically released... (and I repeat, Im in space, not accelerating, no air resistance).

How to fix this?

Thanks

Shouldn't this fix it? - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/97285-0-25-Stock-Bug-Fix-Modules

Or is that in fact a different, unrelated bug to EVAs?

This should work if the kerbal is being flung off. If the kerbal is just sliding off the ladder (which is what it sounds like), the above fix will reduce it but doesn't fix it.

I'm still looking into fixing the ladder slide. I think I'm getting closer, but we'll see... :)

In the mean time, as soon as you go EVA press the W key a little. That usually moves the kerbal up the ladder some. They sometimes slide off the top or bottom of the ladder, but slowly enoug that you can usually control it.

Cheers,

It's only a work-around rather than a fix, but I make sure to have my capsule oriented normal to my direction of flight (as if I was changing orbital plane). Doesn't stop my kerbal being flung off into space, but I find that once I activate the EVA pack, I'm automatically in a parallel plane with the capsule hatch. Which makes it a *lot* easier to fly over, grab onto the ladder and climb back in.

My kerbal always seems to lose his grip due to drifting up or down the ladder, so my workaround was to bolt a few ladder rungs to the decoupler underneath (and, if possible, above) the capsule. That way he can drift further up or down before losing his grip.

Stupid workaround, but it works relatively well.

You could also put structural parts in the way of the kerbal on the ladder, the basic idea is to put something on either end of the ladder that is (I'm almost certain) always build in to hatches. Basically, if they're sliding off, put a wall in the way! If the kerbal is being flung off into space instead, same idea. Build a wall! I usually use Structural Pylons, 1x1 Structural panels, etc. and build a box around the hatch. Might take some experimentation to make sure that you can actually get the kerbal out of the pod, and out of the box you build, but I find that it works quite well, even if it does end up looking ugly. Hey, at least the poor Kerbal isn't flying off into deep space, never to be seen again.....

Also, about that "stupid" workaround. As a YouTuber I watch (that doesn't play KSP) has said many times, "If it's stupid, but it works, then it's not stupid."

I've taken to putting a Goo-pod at the end of the ladder that seems to catch the Kerbal nicely.
