Hi, just found this thread. After reading the regulations, I wondered if part clipping was allowed. So, is part clipping allowed? I'll be posting my car later.

So here is my entry with the KF-3(new roll cage to meet the requirements so changed model number) It clocks in at about 2 min even.

I do have a question for you guys (being new to racing in KSP) how do you guys get your crafts to go that fast?

Sorry if and of these suggestions seem a little patronising, just covering the bases:

Are you using your RCS thrusters?

Are you accelerating basically all the time except for in the very tight corners?

Have you got all wheels set to power the car?

Are you using all-wheel steering?

Is your car light enough (under about 1.25t)?

Are you wheels properly aligned?

If the answer to any of those questions is no, that's probably your answer.

I would say that your time is not determined by your speed, but your turning, acceleration and timing.

Note my run.

I stuck to the track more than you did. Kyrian said that the line is the "Optimal Racing Line", and it seems to be true.

Next: Are you using 4 wheel drive? If not, do.

And are all your wheels steering? They should be.

How often do you use the RCS thrusters? If you drive in docking mode, they are on whenever you are hitting "W", which for me is 99.9% of the time. (Except for a split-second on the really sharp turns.) I've got <2 units left at the end of the course.

I´ve improved the KRC-1, so here´s the KRC-2!

I did several laps, but the best time I had was this 2:33. I don´t know if my car is bad or I´m just a bad driver.

yes I do use rcs (2x thrusters)

yes it is light (1.06 T as it is now)

and I believe the wheels are aligned

Could be you're just slowing down too much for the corners. I'm afraid I don't really know what else to suggest.

Also:

CoM as low as possible

Wheelbase as wide as possible

Wheelbase not too long

No more downforce than is necessary

ALSO:

If you have down-facing control surfaces in the front of your craft, counter-intuitively they produce UPFORCE. Tilt them up instead of down.

Like this:

Tip: a forward CoL (or Centre of Downforce actually) gives a well-handling car, rearward gives a very stable car. Find a good cross between the two.

Finally got a clean lap done. Nothing too spectacular, but just for the sake of getting a time on the board:

For now, cause I'm not on my main pc, I'm gonna put the video of the first race here. Nothing too good but I hope I get better

Things to note:

- make your rear axle wider

- give your car one more click of front wing angle.

Other than that, I think that's not bad. Looks a teeny bit heavy, maybe try running 15-20 RCS?
