2nd KRF Formula K Championship

After successfully jumping the entire Admin building pool by accident (and taking almost no damage!), I have named my vehicle:

G-10 "Grasshopper"

...the future of racing vehicles!

Quick stats on the Grasshopper:

Top speed (without RCS; tank full): 23.6 m/s

Top speed (with RCS): 42.7 m/s

Mass (With full RCS): 1.22t

Mass (No RCS): 0.98t

Maximum safe turn speed, 45 degrees: 25 m/s

Maximum safe turn speed, 90+ degrees: 20 m/s

Part count: 63

Control Surfaces: 3

> Superior roll cage, capable of withstanding a >35 m/s roll-over.

> Wide-mounted RCS thrusters allow for precision turning.

> (Also, nice turn radius despite lacking the smaller wheels.)

> Unique and beautiful design, unlike any other so far.

Pictures:

Front view. Note how snug Jeb is in the Grasshopper's command seat.

Orthogonal view. There's a pocket-sized I-beam on the bottom, just barely visible, and a structural panel mounted at an angle on top.

Top view. Note the roll cage, from the hardpoints in the back to the antennas in the front. Jeb's as safe as a Kerbal can be.

~~~
I know I probably spent too much effort on this, but this is what I would love for future KRF cars to look like. We'll have to see how well the thing does, though... :)
Whaddaya think?
My plan for Formula K was to make an F1 analogue with single-seat open-wheelers with wings and the like. This is still pretty good anyway!
One day I may open a full-body racing series.
Anyway, nice submission UA, I like it!
Also for Wanderfound, I might open it today.
I was just thinking about a full-body (Ke Mans?) series. Mostly so I could use a spaceplane cockpit and race from IVA...
Race One has been opened!
Circuit de Temeraire
This is a rather long, but fast circuit, coming in at just under the maximum of 3kms in length. Sector One is very twisty, however the circuit pans out afterwards.
Outright Lap Record: CaptainGiblets - 1:22
Formula K Lap Record: CaptainGiblets - 1:22
Formula K Race Record: CaptainGiblets - 1:26
I suggest you all gear your cars in between handling and speed for this one.
Just a note to everyone, the line I took in the .trk file is the best possible racing line, so aim to be as close as you can to it.
Download the .trk file here and put it in GameData/PersistentTrails/PluginData/Tracks.
RACE LEADERBOARD:
1st: CaptainGiblets - 1:26
2nd: GROOV3ST3R - 1:30
5th: Kyrian - 1:38
6th: mrmcp1 - 1:38
7th: burnoutforzai - 1:38
Krawley G1 sets a time of 1:41.
Green line = Track route
Red line = my line
Hairy moments include going up on 2 wheels after the tight left at turn 15, almost hitting the VAB after a bad exit from the next chicane, and nearly taking off at the VAB/SPH boundary line.
Verdict: Great track!
If you aren't on two wheels, you aren't turning tight enough. ;-)
Kerbodyne entry should be in tomorrow.
Is there supposed to be something in the track file that makes direction and start point obvious? If so, I'm not seeing it.
For now, I'm assuming that it's anti-clockwise starting from the Astronaut complex pedestrian crossing.
Is it anti-clockwise? The image won't load.
EDIT:
Aahhh, it is! (The image loaded)
That explains a lot.0-0
GRRR.... :mad:
I was hitting that stupid hairpin turn at like 25 m/s and flipping every time.
