Is there any ETA on a fix for X64Bit KSP for Windows?

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble installing Linux (don't want to toast my system) and I'm running into trouble which ObsessedWithKSP tried helping me with. Tried to make an extended partition, but Windows wanted to make the drive Dynamic and I was left scratching my head.

Is Squad or anyone even working on this?

Sorry if I seem arrogant, but I have to find someone local who's more tech savvy in putting Linux Dual Boot on both my systems.

The issue is not with Squad unfortunately, it's with the Unity3D game engine, Squad can try to patch things their end but it means fudging around with hex editors and build-time patches to fix stuff that'll just be broken again in the next Unity update.

It's saner to post bugs to the Unity support/dev forums so they can fix their software, then later unity builds will be more stable.

As for Linux, the Ubuntu installer can handle all the hard work, there are options to install it alongside other operating systems and there are many tutorials and guides available online :)

Yeah if you're at all unsure then it's best not to proceed just in case, while the Ubuntu installer does try to make things as easy as possible there is no way to prevent accidental damage by the user.

The safest way I can think of though would be to have only one drive to install to, you unplug the power from the Windows drive so it can't be accidentally overwritten, and use the bios/uefi to switch between hard drives/OS's at boot time.

That way you don't risk messing up boot loaders and if you don't want to use Linux you can just format that drive and use it for something else.

I`m dying to know if it will either improve, simply work or not fail for others

My ksp 0.25 was a crashfest from startup to simple and completely random.

I`m running CCC for amd cards and tried this:

Add a profile for ksp, just make it default to start with and disable crossfire.

Ksp settings disable full screen.

Create a shortcut for the 64bit exe and add this as command " -popupwindow -force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded"

Give it a try?

My heavily modded 32bit ksp clone worked perfectly using that command line argument (-force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded), no idea why, how or wth.

1 crash after a full day of playing (~10hours) after crashing a 200+ part ship into the runway after a failed launch.

Not sure, how or why (I'm guessing it may be the nature of running shaders in DX11 forcing multithreading) but this worked on Win x64.
