Project Arctic Film- Be Part Of Something Great

Well I was thinking it should have enough room for a rover, which I need to get round to designing, is it possible we could mix two ideas together? I have been speaking to some people and they gave me an idea for a dropship, they said that they liked the way that the dropship out of aliens delivered its cargo. Here is pic

I dont like the art style, but I do like the way that the rover is hidden inside, so the shuttle will have to be quite big, a welded frame should be ok with doors and detailing added later would be perfect to reduce part count.

As for mods, currently I think we definitely need: B9, firespitter, texture replacer, planet factory, Welder, stuff like that, i'll go through the add on section at the weekend to post a list of what is available. As for mod count, for a movie this size I think that we should use mods as some parts in the game aren't up to standard. I think the best way is to use a shared game save that way we can know what mods are being used

Quick little jot on what I post here. I'm just giving suggestions so you can disregard anything I post if it doesn't make sense. I'm just giving examples and concept art and seeing if you like it.

On that note... If the planet the team is investigating has an atmosphere and requires a super durable rover, I find this general shape of rover to be super cool:

I'll be setting up a spacecraft exchange thread tomorrow so you can post crafts for the film there

I think it might be helpful to post there crafts from here and make a poll with them :) So community will be able to take part in this project and help us make a choise

Other than the fact that the Kerbal is done completely wrong in every way possible, everything was sketched out badly, and the text sucks, what do you think of the overall poster design?

I love it! Especially how the letters look liek they're beeing shlooped up by the tower. Reminds me very much of Halo Forerunner structures. I'd love it if the tower looked similar. A critique, I suggest you draw the kerbal from his shoulder rather than behind him. So only his helmet side is on the screen. My opinion.

OH! You know what, we might be able to get this guy who used to make epic art renders to make us a poster. You know for kicks.

As a first sketch it looks great I really like the kerbal (and is that a building in the back ground?)

Might be an idea to use the Firespitter skids Zekes, they go really small with tweakscale and you could remove the wheels and stick 4 on the bottom of the cubes. We don't have anyone in texture replacer at the moment either, I had a go and my first attempt is an arctic camo Kerbal. I'll tried canvas/leather for an old style suit but it comes out like shiny plastic, I don't know how to stop that, we need an expert.

so, pc is coming back tomorrow, which means I can start building stuff, and make a video on my cars, yay isn't this fun XD, I am getting really excited about this film, we just need to iron out a few issues and then we can begin briefing

Ok so I have compiled a list of mods that we could use:

-[0.25] Alcubierre Warp Drive (Stand-alone)

Could be very useful for making the propulsion of the mothership, it is what i was hoping would be used.

-[0.25] TextureReplacer 1.9.2

Useful for making suits, and planets and other things, this is a must

-[0.25] B9 Aerospace | Release 5.2.6

Excellent for making the futuristic dropships and rovers, and most importantly the structures, I think this has to be another must

-[0.25] TweakScale - Rescale Everything!

This can be used to reduce part count and add detail whilst also making ships more practical

-[0.25] Kerbal Attachment System (KAS) 0.4.9

Very useful for the sledge and other things, grappling hooks and stuff

-[0.25+] HyperEdit - Teleporter, Orbit & Planet Editor, & More.

Some of these ships will most likely only be props and we need to get them places, the mothership has to be big enough however you don't have to worry about stuff like delta-v

-[0.25] EVA Follower [v1.03, 05 Nov 2014]

Useful for large scenes and crews, a must in my books

-Firespitter propeller plane and helicopter parts v6.3.5 (Sep 1st) for KSP 0.24.2

Need this for the sledge and stuff, very useful and can be used for the arctic plane

-[0.25] Camera Tools (Stationary Camera) v1.1

Useful for creating the shots that we need

-[0.25] PlanetShine v0.2.2

Again, useful for making the films eye candy

-[0.25] Near Future Technologies (17/11/14: All packs, CTT compatibility)

Blue: Builders mods

Red: Recorders mods (Obviously the recorders will need the same mods as ther builders but then again that is why I said " However you will need a PC capable of loading and testing crafts with high parts if needed"

Tell me your thoughts on them, environment mods are also needed, we could wait for astronomer to release the interstellar pack, that looks amazing at the moment.

I have shorten the mod list to make it more stock, the mods remaining are either eye candy or help make important parts of the film. You do not need them all, download whatever you want from the list and then tell the recorders what you have used, this will decrease the affect on PC performance.

-[0.25] Kerbal Joint Reinforcement v2.4.4

Structures and motherships need to be large and this will help massively to stop lag and breakages

-[0.25] Kerbal Attachment System (KAS) 0.4.9

Very useful for the sledge and other things, grappling hooks and stuff

-[0.25+] HyperEdit - Teleporter, Orbit & Planet Editor, & More.

Some of these ships will most likely only be props and we need to get them places, the mothership has to be big enough however you don't have to worry about stuff like delta-v

-[0.25] RasterPropMonitor - putting the A in your IVA (v0.18.3)

Adds atmosphere and realism to the game, useful for landing scenes

Can be used as the on-board computer for cool interesting landing shots to show locations and such

-[0.25] Kerbin-Side v0.39.1

The world needs more than 1 base, so why not add more? Makes it more believable anyways

Useful for large scenes and crews, a must in my books

-[0.25] Universal Storage

Could be used for detailing and functionality, has a really cool used art style

I'm afraid I won't be able to do much building or recording with that mod list... Cross me off of building and recording ;.;. I can still build stock craft and do everything outside of Kerbal.

Oh, the list is so big.. I'm not sure everybody will be able to build anything with such large list..

The real problem for me is plain part number limit. B9 itself is pushing it for me :P. I was thinking this was more of a "Stock part + Visual enhancers" project. I'd love to do all that I can outside of running Kerbal with mods (Meaning I can still build stock craft for you if wanted).

I suggest you look at my Spruce Moose II though. I made a gorgeous 350-ish part count cargo plane with a working door. It'd be great for carrying equipment and such to the outpost.

Or you can just load mods when you want to shoot a specific scene (might want to copy KSP onto a RAM disk for this, though, as this could take a while). As for visual effects, you can do many of these with post-processing.

Yes that sounds good, load what you want, when you want and tell us what mods are being used

Would maybe be an idea to set a master list that can be used, any builder could use all, part or none but not anything not on the list. Seems a shame not to have Baha in there, just the retracting engines and RCS, it adds something using an animated part where possible IMO.

Unfortunately I can't really help on this because I'm doing stuff for the KSP Community CubeSat, but things like this just make me happy.

It makes me happy because we're being ambitious. And awesome.

First we have the KSP Community CubeSat, and now a movie.
