Windows 7 64 bit system - KSP 1.0.2

Latest version of CKAN as of this comment

I can't download anything. I select the mods I want but the "go to changes" button never highlights. After I had that issue I thought it might be a bug with one of the mods I had selected so I restarted everything and just selected random mods and the same problem occurs. I never get a chance to install anything.

NOTE: I am not the author of the app, I simply like his app/mod, and I am a fan of the ease CKAN brings to maintaining my mod collection...

Per Dazpoet's post to the app thread (Phoenix Industries Cargo Resupply System) where I was posting about this, CKAN seems to be stuck on an old version of his mod - it shows 2 separate (and conflicting, apparently - either singly is fine, but select both and they turn red in the gui) 1.25m and 2.5m versions of the mod, and on top of that, the version those show in CKAN gui Metadata tab is 1.2. The current release for the app is 1.5.

So I tried to remedy that after reading your quickstart.

I have created a file for the mod

CTN.nkan

}

parsed/validated it with netkan

Which, after making sure I didn't have a cached copy, I then used that .ckan file for installing via the CKAN gui.

So it works.

But as of the time of this post, the old bugged versions are there in CKAN and this is not, even after doing a refresh (but the version I installed above is still present in my GameData directory and is fully functional, although it appears CKAN doesnt recognize it being there, not even as an AD mod).

How does that get fixed?

Looks like something on the other side is saying "no mods for you", if you where on linux/os x I'd advise updating your certificates but that's not usually necessary under windows.. Is this a persistant issue (multiple hours) or something that happened intermittently?

If I have previously installed a mod that wasn't updated or added yet to CKAN, when it finally does I get this:

http://i.imgur.com/GQ6anrS.jpg

I am then no longer able to update these mods through CKAN.

I've tried uninstalling the mods manually which results in a CKAN error.

How do I get CKAN to allow these to update?

Just to clarify. You added these mods manually? Or did you add them through CKAN in an earlier version of KSP where CKAN kept track of them and now they are AD?

CKAN crashes with an unhandled exception when the partition is full during download. (Linux 4.0.4 - Gentoo)

Would you mind opening a github issue about this and include the exception? Sounds like something we should check for!

Does commandline work, like can you do 'ckan update' followed by e.g. 'ckan install ModuleManager' ? Do you have any mods installed right now or is it a fresh install?

CTN.nkan

{
"spec_version": 1,
"x_netkan_license_ok": true,
"identifier": "CTN",
"license": "CC-BY-NC-SA",
"release_status" : "stable",
"$kref": "#/ckan/kerbalstuff/831",
"recommends": [
{ "name": "KIS" },
{ "name": "MechJeb2" }
],
}

parsed/validated it with netkan

netkan.exe -v CTN.nkan

which produced the metadata .ckan file

CTN.ckan

{
"spec_version": 1,
"x_netkan_license_ok": true,
"identifier": "CTN",
"license": "CC-BY-NC-SA",
"release_status": "stable",
"recommends": [
{
"name": "KIS"
},
{
"name": "MechJeb2"
}
],
"resources": {
"homepage": "http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/122510-Phoenix-Industries-Cargo-Resupply-System-(KIS-MechJeb-Compatible)",
"kerbalstuff": "https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/831/Phoenix%20Industries%20Cargo%20Resupply%20System"
},
"ksp_version": "1.0.2",
"name": "Phoenix Industries Cargo Resupply System",
"abstract": "A four part mod containing a probe capsule, storage trunk, solar panels, and heat shield. KIS and MechJeb compatible.",
"author": "MoviesColin",
"version": "1.5.0",
"download": "https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/831/Phoenix%20Industries%20Cargo%20Resupply%20System/download/1.5.0",
"x_generated_by": "netkan",
"download_size": 1540079
}

Which, after making sure I didn't have a cached copy, I then used that .ckan file for installing via the CKAN gui.

FILE->Install from .ckan... (selected the file above)

About to install...
* CTN 1.5.0
Downloading "https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/831/Phoenix Industries Cargo Resupply System/download/1.5.0"
Module "Phoenix Industries Cargo Resupply System" successfully installed
Success!

As I posted in the thread you can track the progress of this over at https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/NetKAN/pull/1457 where I also link the PR which added the 1.2 versions of both. The reason it isn't showing up in CKAN is that it isn't merged yet (aka not added to our indexing service) because the upgradepath needs looking into.

Your locally installed mod isn't showing up because the gui requires mods to exist in the upstream to be visible. Doing a 'ckan list' in a terminal should show CTN as installed and tracked still. GUI will get this functionallity added once https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/CKAN/pull/1005 is merged into the codebase.

The reason the two older versions are conflicting is because they write the same data (same filenames, same location) but with slightly different information (and the same name on the pieces) in them so trying to install one while the other is installed would require overwriting (and break existing crafts) which CKAN doesn't do.

Ok this does sound weird and at this time my best guess is a network issue. Are you perhaps behind a firewall? We've had a few reports that some countries block github, although if you managed to download CKAN I'm assuming you can access it?

What is the exact error, can you perhaps provide a screenshot? As per your initial post I gather that commandline doesn't work either, does issueing 'ckan update --debug' provide any additional information?

Finally got it to work. Deleted all the repositories in setting then added "New" and default.

As you posted that I'm 99% sure I know what your error was. Did you by any chance have the Amsterdam Mirror in all your tests? That one throws that specific error since it's currently down.

When I select Astronomers Visual Pack the option to download doesn't show up. It works for all the other mods but not that one.

You need to manually choose one of the cloudpacks for it aswell, low med or high. There is a fix coming which Will remedy this problem but it is a release or two away still.

I put up a pull request creating CTN.nkan (which is the directory the new version installs to), so hopefully that will avoid the issue of the conflict? I also referenced it in the discussion of your pull you linked above, and back referenced your pull in my pull request. Sorry if thats not how its supposed to be done - I've never done this before so Im unsure of the etiquette and process. Im a newbie. :blush:

I've not tried the commandline but I reinstalled CKAN and noticed something. It seems as if selecting certain mods causes the "go to changes" button to grey out. On my setup for example, Chatterer works but selecting Distant Object Enhancement causes it to grey out. This is seemingly happening with random mods. I don't know enough about the particular mods to know if they need something else first before they work or what is going on.

Looks like something on the other side is saying "no mods for you", if you where on linux/os x I'd advise updating your certificates but that's not usually necessary under windows.. Is this a persistant issue (multiple hours) or something that happened intermittently?

The issue vanished after I ran CKAN with administrator rights. Thanks for your support!

Just to clarify. You added these mods manually? Or did you add them through CKAN in an earlier version of KSP where CKAN kept track of them and now they are AD?

I added these manually before they were listed/showed up through CKAN.

(direct download links on the mod pages themselves)

I know you didn't ask this but in case it makes a difference, I added them manually before 2 updates of CKAN ago.

Also, I don't know what AD means.

I do know CKAN isn't allowing me to update these through it.

No uninstall, no update options.

Uninstalling manually and running CKAN to try reinstalling causes an exemption error in CKAN

(like it has cached data on these and now it's looking for it??)

I thought about uninstalling CKAN and reinstalling to have it create a new list but fear it would result in all, now manually installed mods (not thru CKAN) being AD and autodetected .dll

EDIT: My Original Post here

Aha so it's certain mods and not random ones, that makes life easier! I'm going to assume that those certain mods are perhaps, EVE, Astronomers Pack, TAC-LS, PlanetShine, DistantObject (yep) and anything else which has a multitude (>1) configs available through CKAN. You're running into the issue which https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/CKAN/pull/1002 will fix. Basically CKAN need you to also choose a config to solve the dependency for the mod in question. Somewhere we had a coderegression which made the GUI unable to handle these situations but the awesome RichardLake is fixing us up with a new better way of fixing it. For now you'll need to pick the configs manually, they are normally named <modname>-<config> or <modname>-<clouds <quality>> or something similar to those.

I added these manually before they were listed/showed up through CKAN.

AD means autodetected which all mods who are manually installed and located by CKAN are marked as. Basically CKAN doesn't play nice with AD mods and don't touch them since it cannot guarantee consistency since it has no idea how those mods where installed. Manually removing them and running 'ckan scan' followed by 'ckan update' in a terminal should resolve the autodetected status and then you'd be able to install them through CKAN clients. If they still show up as AD there might be some fragment of the mods left laying about which CKAN locates and thinks is the entire mod.

Also you're correct about removing and reinstalling CKAN, that would be a bad idea since all mods will then be AD. Information about your installed mods are in the CKAN folder inside the KSP root directory so just messing around with the ckan.exe is ok but poking about inside the CKAN folder is not.

Hi, how long does it usually take for mods hosted on KerbalStuff to update through CKAN? Your wiki says a few hours, but it's been almost 24 hrs since I updated my mod and CKAN is still only showing the previous version. I did refresh the repository. Thanks

We've run into a snag somewhere, see https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/NetKAN-bot/issues/13 for tracking

EDIT: Manually updated and grabbed the latest one just now, our latest version is now 2.1.

New release - v1.6.20 aka Bright Spot

  • [system] CKAN icons have better transparency (slikts)
  • [GUI/Feature] You can double-click to select a KSP instance on the instance select screen (solarshado)
  • [GUI/Feature] When the table of mods is focused, you can now type a letter to go to mods starting with that letter. Pressing the same letter multiple times will cycle through them. Typing the start of a mod name will quick-navigate to that mod. This is a quick navigation that does not update the search box (that filters mods, rather than navigates to them). (slikts)

Did you know? You can click on any image on our releases page to learn more about the namesake of that release. :)

I swear it was exactly as I stated in previous posts with CKAN exemption errors and all.

However, now I just moved the AD mod folders to the desktop, restarted CKAN and they were gone!

(I've tried this before...I swear)

Reinstalled those mods using CKAN-

Perhaps one of the last 3 updates fixed it?

happy accident?

I dunno.

But thanks so much for all your patience and helping me fix this

+1 rep brother!

CKAN errors when applying the new update to the Mk2 Expansion mod if you already have thumbnails for the example craft, because the mod now comes with thumbnails and CKAN doesn't want to overwrite them.

(Applies to 1.6.19, not tested in most recent CKAN version)

we need a "force" or "Override" option to do an install of a mod that's been AD and update the clients internal tracking of such mod. Basically it already detects an AD app. Make that AD symbol clickable, and clicking turns it into a checked checkbox, just like an update after clicking, after a suitable warning popup ("latest version is X, you are running a non CKAN install, proceed/cancel?". It would avoid a lot of these issues - and a disclaimer about "you force it, its your responsibility" should be enough for broken installs from people forcing a mod. This is an issue because of the recent lag in CKAN updating - I have mods that hd a needed bug fix and were stalled on CKAN, so I installed the fix myself and its stuck in AD - had to do the whole deleted, clean, and rescan circus at a command prompt, which defeats the purpose of CKAN as a user-friendly tool.
