Goth-Spacecrafts - Jupiter Ascendant

Ever since he saw the first trailer of Jupiter Ascendant a friend of mine was obsessed with what he calls gothic design of the spacecrafts. He asked me if I had/could build such a ship in KSP.

No, I can/have not - but I know just the place to ask if someone did! :D

If you ask people such questions it usually helps if you accompany your question with some pictures. 'Jupiter Ascendant'? I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about. A Google image search for 'Jupiter Ascendant' won't get you anything and a regular Google search doesn't help much either. All you'll get is a variety of astrology mumbo jumbo. All except a single link, an IMDB link to 'Jupiter Ascending'. At least get the freaking name correct next time.

I have watched the trailer and still have no clue what you're talking about.

Whoa, get a grip on those harsh-horses there Tex, just a little more effort and you'd have seen this:

Not really something KSP can handle without at least Kerbpaint though :)

That's just it. With questions like this people should not HAVE to put in extra effort.

But you managed to put so much effort into scolding me for:

1. mixing up Jupiter Ascending and Andromeda Ascendant,

2. expecting the sci-fi crowd around here to have seen the trailers,

3. asking for spacecrafts reminiscent of gothic architecture in general without making 100% clear that the trailer was just the spark.

Seeing that you otherwise post in a more reasonable manner, you either had a very bad day and found just the vent you needed - happy to oblige, once ... - or you have some personal problem with me, which leaves me curious.

Andromeda Ascendant is again something completely different. That's the ship from the TV series Andromeda. :sticktongue:

OK. that was one just to tease you.

My reaction was probably caused by the sudden sharp drop in IQ on the forum. Dozens of necro-posts, a multitude of questions that could be answered within a minute with a proper forum search. And a couple of questions along the lines of 'I need help with this' without explaining what 'this' actually is.

Nothing personal but your question clearly belonged in the last category.

the body of the craft should be possible with up to maybe 25 - 35 parts. the biggest problem would be the wings with these curves. you need small parts like the structural withe pylon and many of them...

the scatter hull should be easily done with control surfaces.

the part count without the wings? maybe 100 - 120 but with....to high...

just my opinion.

if you dipped into the modding scene, you could probably make it relatively easy to mix and match the parts while pulling off some custom parts to make it fit together. The trouble is that the Andromeda Ascendant was a pretty large warship. We're talking about a huge crew capacity, the capability to take on some of the meanest bullies in several galaxies of space, retractable defense systems, and a state of the art AI capable of commanding the vessel competently in the case of overwhelming crew loss. In KSP sizes, this thing would still easily dwarf the entire region that the KSP is built in. These things were never "launched" in the traditional means, but rather "built" in orbit (of the local star, not some unworthy planet) and navigated in the scale of star-clusters instead of how we navigate KSP, which uses planetary bodies as locational markers. This is simply not a ship that could even be lived up to in KSP. Now, within that universe of ship designs were several smaller, similarly constructed crafts, which might be constructable within the scale we're used to without falling flat of the real deal.

Okay, so maybe I was a bit in love with that ship. The show kinda fell flat after that whole alternate-reality crazy-nutty thing they did in the last season, and that whole "rebuilt the commonwealth, and now they don't like us anymore" crud was a bit hard to go along with, but otherwise a good series.

That other craft, I don't have any clue what it is. It looks pretty, but rather inefficient. It looks to me like they grew it rather than built it. I could sneeze on that thing's bridge and break the navigational equipment. What happens when a stray micrometeorite hits the hull? Think about a pile of leaves in Fall. Now imagine jumping into it. That's what I see happening here.
