Anyone else use the new Mk 2 Parts for rockets?

Just wondering if anyone else has started to develop rockets using the new spaceplane parts! I've been messing around with the idea and have found that they actually work quite well!

I even found a way to make a pretty much perfect fairing for one of the engine types!

So, Has anyone else messed about with things like this?

Yes, the Mk2 parts are superior in a number of ways.

If you want to make a JATO (early-ditch jet first stage) or even a VTVL jet launch-vehicle the Mk2 fuselage with just liquid fuel (name changing) is THE choice. Most of the others fit but are mediocre in choice.

A lot of work has gone into making KSP a better 'flight simulator' over the past few updates since that's where the demand seems to be. Rockets have been ignored since ARM, so collectively since 0.22 or so it has become easier and more efficient to make a plane and less useful to make a rocket. Spaceflight seems to have become a 'thing' you might also do, rather than the point of the game.

I tried to but they only let them attach on the thin side rather than the wider side. How are ppl getting around this?

Connection is a problem and the solution I'm using is the favourite "how can I make ... fit to ..." = Cubic Octagonal Struts* plus the WASD keys to get orientation.

[*They are massless in flight so don't affect physics performance, attach almost anywhere and create a new node to which you can connect ... almost anything]

I had a bright moment during a base building period, scrapped my original system, and started building a modular Mk-2 base. here are the results! I land each module using an aerospace engine attached to one of the docking ports for descent, then rove to the base.

Yeah I use them all the time. I have 2 specially designed landers that fit in the cargo bay, one big and one small. They use RCS fuel as their main engines, but have solar panels and a an ion engine as well. The bigger one has all the science equipment and has proven itself on the Mun, Minmus, Duna, Ike, Gilly, Bop, Vall, Pol, Dres, and Eeloo. The smaller one can only do Minmus, Bop, and Gilly I think. I also have an emergency return system that can get 4 Kerbals from the Jool system back to KSC from the Jool system, albeit, only in command chairs.

Recently, I have constructed 2 large VTOL rovers from the MK2 parts as well. One uses jets and I have taken it island hopping around Laythe. The other uses rockets and is biome farming on the Mun with a full science suite.

I love the MK2 planes parts and am greatly looking forward to the MK3 to expand my fleet and capabilities. I like how they have more of a spaceship feel to them over the boring cylinders of updates past.
