I am making a wish list and I was thinking I should get a wii U.

Should I?

I have the best faith in it, it seems to be the best console by Nintendo.

*WARNING* Please no brand loyalty trolling please.

And if you present another suggestion, please give me a couple items to consider.

system doesnt matter, it is merely the tool you use to enjoy your games. browse through here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_exclusives_%28eighth_generation%29 to see what games are exclusive to their systems. personally I have a ps4, and am excited for bloodbourne and the order:1886. I am sad that I wont be able to play halo 5, but oh well. MASTER CHIEF COLLECTION NEEDS TO COME TO PC

I guess. I don't really know why people play consoles except for big screens, but hey, there's interactivity.

Cost. You can buy an entire XBONE for the cost of a new video card alone, never mind the rest of the PC.

That's why I have an X360, anyways.

Except my laptop is two years older than the consoles, and pretty much exactly equal performance. It cost £600, or about £200 more than the console's launch prices. For that it came with a very nice 900p screen, good sound (for a laptop) and a 600 GB HDD, as well as far more functionality. Again, two years before the consoles existed.

EDIT: on the subject of the original topic, the Wii U is the best console by far for interesting and lasting games - just ask plenty of youtube personalities who own all three, barely touch PS4/XBone, but play Wii U plenty.

Guys it really doesn't matter what platform you play on. As long as you're having fun it doesn't matter if you have a $1200 PC or a $400 console...

Yep, agreed here.

I believe i stated this in OP.

"No Brand Loyalty trolling please!"

Not really trolling, just someones OPINION

I bought a Wii U a few months ago. I have to say, I love the console itself. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. are fantastic. With that being said, just like with the Wii, it feels like there is such a huge lack of games... I wish there were more games to play. I don't know, so many of them just don't interest me. The virtual game market is also kind of small compared to the original Wii.

Other than that, great system, the controller is great, I just wish more game studios had faith in it. One of the main reasons I bought it is because they are making a new Starfox game for it. I have waited many many years for a legit Starfox sequel. I just hope it's amazing for the wait.

consoles? why would you wnt one of those? GPCMR

Right now I play on the PC, but I have an old Xbox too. Sometimes it's just nice to pop in a disc and play away, not worrying about mods, proper settings or whatever. Just go and have fun, especially if there is a friend over. Other days I feel like getting things exactly how I want them and spend hours to exactly mod and tune a game the way I want, to then play it in huge resolutions.

Neither is better, both have attractive qualities. This whole rivalry between consoles or console versus PC is just silly.

I take it you've not tried the current generation of consoles?

Steam first, then Wii U, then your preferred flavor of HD Twin. Get all the big multiplats on steam, then the nintendo exclusives, then pick between the handful of sony exclusives vs the handful of microsofft exclusives. If you have all the money get both.

I've owned plenty of Nintendo stuff over the years, starting with a couple of Game & Watch handhelds. I've also owned a SNES, Gameboy, GBA, and a v1 DS.

Nintendo's first-party stuff is generally pretty decent. Regardless of any other argument, if you want to play any of that, it's pretty much the only way to go.

I'm mostly a PC gamer exclusively at this point, but out of the current generation of consoles, the Wii U is probably the only one that would tempt me.

I have a Wii U and I love it. I am a big N fan but I will try to do this objectively.

Pro: Having used it... second screen gaming is what it's all about. This thing is the future. There is nothing on the console that better demonstrates this than Wind Waker HD. Inventory in hand, game on the TV. No pausing to switch gear, it's completely seamless and added motion control for the hookshot, grappling hook, and boomerang make it even better.

Con: There are a distinct lack of games that utilize it. Some use it in a mediocre way (Mario Kart 8), some use it in a terrible way (New Super Mario Bro. U) and many just ignore it for anything more than off TV play. What really is sad is that some games would excel with it and they choose not to. (I'm not saying those games are bad btw, just that they don't use the gamepad as well as they could)

Pro: First & Second party games are great!

Con: Would like to see more third party games. This is not new to Nintendo, lack of third party games has plagued them for quite a while now.

Con: Not as powerful as the competitors.

Pro: Has demonstrated it doesn't really need to be that powerful. It accomplishes what it was intended to just fine.

Con: No Dobly Digital surround like it's competitors (except in Wii mode which has Dolby DTS). Uses only the more modern PCM 5.1 which isn't supported by all systems. (bad luck for my vizio sattelite surround soundbar)

Pro: Unlike it's competitors, it's backward compatible with Wii titles. It also has a robust Virtual Console for even older titles (NES, SNES, GB Advance, still waiting on N64).

Off TV play is a neat feature but I have a 50" TV so I find myself wanting to enjoy those HD graphics, I tend to just avoid playing until I'm dedicated to it. I'm also single though, so if you have kids I can see it being more useful.

Is it worth buying? Yes.. now. I do not regret buying it, but I do regret buying it when I did at the price I did. Early lack of games plagued the system and I could have waited and got it cheaper. There are a lot of good games now and a lot of great looking ones to come. It's true it is mostly casual, but with MK8, Smash bros, and the upcoming

, it does have a few offerings for more exciting multi-player.

If you have any questions about how the console operates, just ask.

If you want to have a mature, less casual gaming experience, then the Wii U isn't for you.

To be fair Wii U does have some adult-oriented games as well, however Nintendo does not make them first party as a rule. They like their IP to be more kid friendly, you will never see Mario or Link covered in blood. Only occasionally do you even see it from the villains.

Second and third party titles are available though, ZombiU is a great game, despite it's unfortunate release date that kind of killed it. Bayonetta 1 & 2 are certainly not for kids (the latter being exclusive to Nintendo). The Monster Hunter series is very popular, but not really my cup of tea. Various other non-exclusive games are also available, Assasin's Creed series, Call of Duty series, Batman Arkham series, etc.
