'Orion' ULA IV SLS

Recommended Posts

Hello! So today at 7:00 am EST National Aerospace Agency, or NASA, launched 'Orion', an unmanned probe used to test the long-term effects of radiation, heat, energy, and other life threatening items. This is to prepare for the mars mission, in which a human being, a real individual, will land on the rocky red planet covered in Iron Oxide, with 2 little asteroids that call its gravitational sphere of influence home. I was so intrigued by this, that I decided I would re-creat my favorite launch system, and the most recent object put into space at this time. Let me introduce:

ULA IV Heavy Lifter: Orion mission.

It is a complete remake of the ULA IV, with its own Orion probe, custom LES (Launch Escape System)

This is a mission. I am pleased with this mission. Damn pleased.

Just off the coast of the land. Thank you very much for viewing this! I really do appreciate it. I don't really post often, both because I am very self-critical and I always feel that my ideas have already been done too much, so if you have any ideas for crafts, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me in the comments below. Also, if you have any comments, questions, or, again, suggestions, please feel free to say them!

EDIT:

Didn't realize that the probe core was too small, so I added a crew-less capsule along with a probe. No pics, sorry, but it basically looks the same. Here is the link:

Not SLS. My mistake. And new craft.

Nice, a 100% stock, scaled down Orion rocket! Try installing KerbPaint. Using the Mk1 Command module, paint it white. You'll have a maned module (and the parts will be unaffected by the mod for those that don't have the mod installed.)

The Orion mission that launched and landed today was unmanned, so using that pod will not do. This rocket works fine. It's smaller than the real one because Kerbin is smaller than Earth, so having a smaller version is in order. Also, I don't use ANY mods, even ones that don't add parts.

Surely you could just remove the crew from it and attach a probe core.

to make some things clear: ULA IV .. .you mean the United Launch Alliance Iv ... which means in this case the Delta IV heavy rocket. for this Orion testflight, the Delta IV was used because the SLS is not ready at the moment. if teh SLS were avaliable, Orion EFT 1 were flown on a SLS

the Delta IV heavy IS NOT PART of the SLS programm. it's a normal commercial heavy lifting rocket just uswed for this cause no other american rocket was suitable for this mission.

second thing, besides your intersting approach on the Delta IV, your size of the Orionmockup is complety wrong. it should have the same diameter then the orange tanks to match your realism. and Orion was not an unmanned probe to test some things, it was the real full Orion capsule, just piloted by computer without humans to test the influence of the radiation bellt to teh systems and the high energy reentry.
