Re-randomize applicants

Recommended Posts

Has anyone found a way to regenerate the list of kerbal astronaut applicants? I don't like the names I got so I'd like to get a new pool to pick from.

I found a weird way to do it.

Go into your persistent file.

Delete all applicant kerbals except one.

Load the persistent.

Hire that kerbal.

Exit the astronaut complex.

Go back in and you should find all new kerbals.

You can then reject that one kerbal you had to hire.

It's stored in the persistence file. So I think the only way in game to get it refilled is to hire them all.

If you're not opposed to save file edits, you can try deleting the applicants from your roster and loading your game back up. Be sure to keep a backup copy, and edit with a plain text editor (such as notepad).

I tried this on your suggestion and it keeps repopulating kerbals with the same names. Is there a value somewhere that influences the names that are selected?

If you really hate them, you'd kill them off. Sometimes you have to pay for new names, but the cost may be as low as a hitchhiker module and a RT-10 solid booster.

Too cruel, I can't do it.

Or you can just edit the file and change the names as you like.

I like the randoms names, just not most of them. lol, my relationships with my kerabsl is complicated.

True, you can just send them somewhere and immediately your recruiting station will fill back up with fresh applicants. Might be a good time to start doing those "put X huge number of Kerbals in Y position" contracts.

If you're talking about the station and outpost contracts, you don't need to provide the kerbals, just the space for them.

1. Download the Kethane mod

2. Convert the cheapest unlimited resource into Kethane to fuel your vessels (just leave Jeb alone)

Doesn't that have a reputation penalty? lol

Dont know, when I tried, career was what is now science mode, so no reputation.

But playing on hard career mode at the moment, science and reputation are so abundant, that I convert them to funds (and thus fuel) anyway (even at those horrible rates from the admin building).

You really want to be careful about converting reputation though. It's what unlocks the better contracts for you. If Kethane's intended to work with career mode I would imagine it's doing the same thing as what happens if a Kerbal dies. Seeing as I don't let my Kerbals die, I'm not certain what the reputation hit is but I do imagine it's large.
